I saw this post and used the program to recover a dvd that had not been finalized and would not play.
The program got it back and it plays on computer with all vob files, but if I try to burn to dvd, it says "incompatible."
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Which burning program are you using?
Besides the VOB files do you also have any IFO and BUP files?

    This is what I have.
As I said, it does play on computer.
    Tried Nero and Imgburn.

I burn so few DVDs I don't really know. I believe most burning programs don't care but do you have an AUDIO_TS folder? If not try making a Movie folder then moving your VIDEO_TS folder into it. Then creating an empty AUDIO_TS folder. [So now the Movie folder contains an empty AUDIO_TS folder and a VIDEO_TS folder which has all your files.] If you point Nero to the Movie folder does it recognize it as a DVD folder?

There is no Audio folder ( as is usual when encoding.)
How do I create a Movie Folder?
When I point to folder using Nero, it does recognize it, but says "failed test."

By Movie folder I just mean a folder to hold the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder (any name for the folder will do).

If you burn other DVDs using Nero or imgburn without an AUDIO_TS folder then they probably don't require it.

Just say your edit. Maybe the failed test has to do with missing a VOB file? Are both your VOB files .99gb? If so there might be a third or even fourth one missing. Each VOB will be .99GB except the last which is usually smaller.

The problem is that the program did not include and Audio Folder, so I am unsure if I did something wrong when using the program.

Re: Getting files back from an almost formatted drive?

I am saying that some DVD burning programs require an AUDIO_TS folder to burn the DVD. If they don't see the AUDIO_TS folder they will say the format is not compatible. The AUDIO_TS folder isn't really necessary but it was the compatibility standard when DVDs first came out.

To get around this you just create a new empty folder next to your VIDEO_TS folder and name it AUDIO_TS. That way the burning program sees the AUDIO_TS folder and goes ahead and okays the burn.

**This may not be the cause of your problem but it can't hurt to try it.

    Thanks for all your trouble.
It didn't work, but since it is playable on my computer (it was a 60 minutes episode) I can live with it.
This was the first dvd recorded show that did not finalize that caused this problem.

Re: Getting files back from an almost formatted drive?

Sorry, I couldn't be of much help. I don't burn enough DVDs to know the pitfalls.

If you have the full episode according to your player then I guess it would be possible to convert it to an avi movie format and back again to a DVD format. But that is rather time-consuming process for a tv episode.

If some workaround comes to mind then I will post back.

    Thanks again,
I did convert it to avi- using dvd fab. but that would not play at all.
I'll just watch this on computer, but I appreciate your time.
