Burned DVD question.

I have a series of videos I'm trying to burn for a christmas gift to my father, when I'm done the videos do NOT play in my Antec DVD player, but work fine in my roommate's Korean brand DVD player. Is this enough for someone to give me a likely diagnosis of what I'm doing wrong?

 

What type of DVD's are you burning? +R's or -R's? Some DVD players wont play both types.

 

They are DVD -R (i always took that to be a regular hyphen, I'm a old-hand at data cd burning, but I'm new to this DVD business ). Is one kind + or - more favored by DVD players to your knowledge?

Maybe we could also check what kind of DVD'S the Antec player likes, and which my parent's uses. That might eliminate the indecision. Thanks so much for the quick reply.

 

I'm thinking it makes a difference because my wife's DVD burner will only burn +R's, so maybe it's the same with DVD players. Some will play both and some only one kind? I'm kinda new to it, too. We had gotten advice to get the -R's because they would be better, but we can't use them. I think they are the newer of the two. In the DVD Player's manual there should be a section stating what it will play.

 

Are the videos you are burning in DVD format or are they computer files like .avi? Some newer players will play avi's but most won't. My player won't play DVD+R even in DVD format.
