How do you burn a dvd to a cd and what is the best software for the best result?

Your best bet would be a combination of freeware applications. 1. DVDDecrypter...this will make a backup of your DVD. 2. DVD Shrink this will compress the backup into CD size. DVD Decrypter will then burn it.

It used to be that DVDShrink would extract and compress the backup in one step, but rumour has it that its developer went to work for Nero. The method above is what I've found to be the most effective currently.

Both applications are available at www.doom9.org

DVDx 2.2 (stable version, 2.3 is latest) is worth a shot. http://dvdx.sourceforge.net/

DVD Shrink won't compress a movie to a CD-It will compress a dual layer movie DVD (8.5GB) to fit on a single layer DVD(4.7GB), or removal of extras to minimize compression, which reduces quality. If you have a DVD burner, this is the best option. DVDx has a CSS decoder but you may need DVD Decrypter to rip some of the newer encryption routines.

Are you certain? I'm 99% sure that it will. I'm going to check tonight to confirm.
