New to the computer scene. I am thinking of installing a dvd-rw to back-up my dvd collection. I am not sure if my computer should be upgraded, and if so to what extent. Any suggestions?
Also if i'm not sending this message properly please advise.

    my system

I'll give it my best. My system is a compaq presario 6400nx.
Athlon 1800,128 mb pc2100 ddr sdram, 40gb hard drive. I currently have a cdrw and dvd rom. As far as sound card i'm not really sure. I do have jbl platinum speakers, which are probably run of the mill since they came with the monitor. I do have record now software which I believe is veritas. Operating system is windows xp, and I do have cable modem. I guess my question is whether to upgrade or simply buy a system that is more capable of handling the task.

Sounds like a plan to me. I've allready considered upgrading to 512mb, and just placed an order for a pioneer dvr 104wb burner for 199.00. But how about that hard drive? Is bigger really better?
