   I see numerous posts talking about burning .iso files using "Nero or similar program", is WIN-XP's 'write files to CD' option the same? I have an .iso file I "wrote" to CD and am unable to boot that CD in order to use the .iso file.

   No, it is not. Try CD Burner Xp Pro, it's free and it will burn an ISO file to disc, among many other things.
