I have Windows Media Player and WinDVD Creator and want to transfer some pics to a CD so I can get them hard printed. I am not having any success with these apps. I also tried to Copy & Paste without success. Do I need different program or what?

    Thanks!

    Hi Ron

Try this CD burning software its free ( does need Microsoft .Net2.0 or above to work, Latest .Net3.5 )
    CDBurnerXP

    Once installed and run,

Pick Create a Data CD/DVD > Locate the folder with the pics you want in the left box *as highlighted below*

Then in the right box, you will see you images in that folder, either copy them all by dragging a box around them or by holding CTRL key and clicking on the ones you want, then on a highlighted one drag them to the bottom right box.

You can of course open other folders and add images up until the disc is full and the menu at the bottom will tell you when your close to this.

Once you have all your images you need, just pop a blank CD/DVD/CDRWDVDRW in the drive and click BURN.

There are other ways in using Windows Photo Gallery etc

    No problems Ron,

Ment to say if you have your own burning software like Nero or Roxio, you can use those the steps will be similar ( just may need to in the final burn settings if your gievn the choice is to tick Finalize Disc, as some of the highstreet printing machines dont/didnt like un-finalized CDs )

Another option might be to copy and paste your pics to a USB stick (a lot easier) providing that your printing store accepts USB sticks of course.

But I don't have those other programs - I had Nero but had problems with it and returned it. I will keep your last comment in mind if I run into that issue.

I had thought about that but I'm having problems with using a new USB drive in my ports. Here is the message I put on the Drivers forum with no response.
"I purchased a new USB drive and when I inserted it in the slot a window came up saying new hardware is found and tries to get me to install the software and/or driver. It also does not show up as a drive when I click on My Computer. I started having this problem after I installed a new wireless mouse which I had to do with any of the four USB slots that I have. I also use those same slots with other USB drives and have no problems with them. I took the new one back to the store and exchanged it for a different new one and the problem persists. Any ideas?"

Would appreciate any suggestions on this issue.

Can't really suggest a cure to your USB problem. :cry

I assume you are using an operating system later than Windows 98SE. After W98SE no drivers are theoretically required so your symptoms are confusing.

Only thing I can suggest at the moment would be to un-install your Mouse software. Replace it with a standard PS cabled mouse for the time being. See if that makes any difference to the performance of your USB ports.

Are your 4 USB ports part of your computer or is it a plug in part to give you more ports? If standard, try all ports one by one although I assume you have done that.

How many USB sticks can you borrow from friends, etc., to see if there is any difference in brands, capacities and the various ports?

I have XP Home. The 4 ports are part of the computer. I generally use one port for the printer, one for the wireless mouse; the other two are used for transferring files or back ups. I have found that the two flash drives I use for back ups always show up as E drive or F drive no matter which port I insert in. Seems like the determination of the drive letter is in the USB drive rather than the ports. Is this normal?

I'll wait to hear back from you before I try uninstalling.

I've run out of ideas. I'd still suggest borrowing other peoples USB sticks and see if that makes any difference. Then I'd uninstall your mouse software. Plug in a PS2 mouse and see what happens, if anything. Bazza

The operating system uses the letters A and B to designate floppy drives (yes we used to have 5 1/4" B floppy drives). C is the hard drive with the operating system. If you partition it, then you might have D, E , etc. based on the number of partitions. If no partitions and you have an optical drive (CD/DVD) that drive gets D. If you have two optical drives, they get D and E. If you plug in a flash drive, it would get the next letter in the chain.
So in your computer, with one hard drive (C) and one optical drive (D), the first flash drive gets assigned E no matter which port it is plugged into. If you have two plugged in, you see drives E and F.
If you add another optical drive to your computer in the future, then you flash drives would move doen to drives F and G.
