Is it possible, recommended to have more than one buring software, such as Nero, plus CDBurnerXP?

    Thanks for the help,

You shouldn’t have any problems having them both installed on your PC at the same time, but of course I wouldn’t recommend trying to ‘run them both’ at the same time (i.e. trying to burn a CD using one and burning a DVD using the other at the same time) if that's what you mean.

The question I would ask here is why would you still want to use CDBurnerXP if you have Nero installed? I currently have Nero 7 Ultra installed and even though it’s a bit heavy on the ‘bloat’ I wouldn’t even consider using anything else. This is a great program which will do anything I need in regards to audio, video and data recording. And the use of Nero Wave editor with the MP3 Pro plug-in which was included is handy too; and a ‘must have.’

Some people are put off by price of Nero Ultra Edition; because the license costs around 80 bucks; if it is bought from the Nero website. However I believe that it is well worth it in the time users will save using Nero; as opposed to the other freeware burning software. Also, users can probably get this program or an older version of Nero for way less than 80 bucks on e-Bay.

CDBurnerXP Pro is primarily an audio CD burner and data DVD burner which ‘claims’ to have some “limited” video DVD capabilities. However, this program cannot do Video CDs and DVDs; CDBurnerXP is not yet able to burn them correctly. It has many of the same capabilities as other freeware utilities (such as Burn At Once) but surpasses it them in several areas. As is the case with numerous freeware burning products out there on the web, CDBurnerXP Pro is sort of a work-in-progress, and I’d definitely recommend visiting the developer’s forum to deal with this programs many bugs and shortcomings.

Another limitation is that burns of ISO images are currently restricted to 4.2GB, and the utility has some difficulties with empty folders and multisessions on DVD+R. If you offer a small donation, you can access the beta of the next version, which fixes most of these bugs. On a positive note; I found that the included "help files" are even more comprehensive than those many other commercial products and there’s an excellent step-by-step video tutorial which visually explains using CDBurnerXP here at this link.

Note: Even though I primarily use Nero for burning CDs and DVD's; I still test freeware programs when their newest versions are released to see if they are any good, what new, etc. I actually thoroughly tested the latest version of CDBurnerXP (v3.0.116) when it was released back around October/November of 2004 and I found it to be intermittently slow and a bit on the "buggy" side. It would occasionally ‘freeze up’ for no apparent reason; and I’d have to shut sown the program and start all over again. And if you decide to uninstall it; wait until you see all of the crap it leaves in your registry! (Be sure to use CCleaner right after, if you eventually decide to uninstall CDBurnerXP).

    Good Luck!

I have Nero 6.6.08 and love it, just saw some info on the other and wondered about it.

Now to another question if you don't mind. When I want to burn MP3 files to a CD I need them to be in a certain order. How do you do that with Nero? I have used WMP so far to do that because it will let you specify the order on the CD, but can't seem to find that with Nero.

    Thanks in advance,

Ah… Good question…. There are two ways (that I know of) of to accomplish this:

    (1) When I was first just starting using burn programs; I noticed that many burners automatically rearrange the audio files in alphabetical order. After putting up with this nuisance for a while; I experimented a little and then decided to try renaming the files with the prefix 1-, 2-, 3- and so on; which would consequently "force" the particular order that I wanted. However this process was time-consuming because it required me to rename every file. Also, later on down the line; if I wish to change the order, I had to then re-name the files again.

    (2) When I started using Nero products; I discovered an alternative solution would be from within Nero/Nero Express - and that it is to drop in an ‘M3U’ playlist; when you create the MP3 audio disc compilation, along with the MP3 audio files. This will allow those MP3 Players that support M3U playlist, to play the songs in the order you have set down in your playlist.

Click Here: to download a .PDF file called How to create an M3U playlist (Using Nero, of course) ;)

Note: This method is a little more complicated than Step 1 (above) but once you learn the steps in that .PDF file and actually create a few M3U playlists; after a while it becomes easier to accomplish.

    Good Luck!

Thanks for the help. I downloaded the file, it took a little while, the link didn't work, but I went to the site and found it. Read it and think maybe I wasn't clear.

All of my music is already on the HD in MP3 format. When I do a disk it will have no more than 6 to 8 songs and of course I need to be able to specify the order. I don't think the renaming thing will work that well for me since the songs are all named so I can find them and changing that would be a LOT of work I would rather avoid.

I read the article, but the pictures & discription do not look like my Nero Express 6.6.0.8. Sorry to be such a bother, but I am a little lost here.

    Thanks in advance,
