I bought Nero 7 Ultra Edition Enhanced earlier this evening. I have repeatedly tried to install the software, and it is not working. I have followed all the steps to shutdown my virus software and firewall as well as any programs I have running, and when installing it comes to the last step where you hit 'install'. I do this and it takes about a minute before it tells me that Nero was interuppted during install, and the install was not completed. It is not loading the disc as I hear no sound from my dvd drive when the install is supposed to start. I have tried installing the program through safe mode but it does not work as windows installer will not run in safe mode. My dvd drive is operational as I have tried playing other dvd's and they work fine. I have uninstalled Roxio/Sonic which was my previous burning software as I have had nothing but problems with it while burning dvd's. So at this stage I am burn softwareless. Hence the reason I bought Nero but I cannot install it. Is there a possibility programs are running in the backround that I need to disable? And if so how do I find them? Anyone have any ideas? For virus protection i run the free avg software, and my firewall is Zonealarm. I shutdown/disable both of these before trying the install. My operating system is Windows XP, and I have a HP laptop which is only a few months old. Help me Please!!!!!

Try de-activating stuff in your start up menu. You can uncheck the items one-by-one, or just uncheck 'em all and try loading Nero then. If that doesn't work, visit the Nero website for help or try the Windows Installer repair tool available as a free download from Microsoft. To get to your startup menu: click Start; click Run; type msconfig; click OK or press Enter; click on the Start Up tab at the top. This provides a list of software that runs at Windows start up. And here's a link to info about the Installer utility that includes a link to download it:

Hey, thanks for your swift reply. I tried all of those things and it still didn't work. I still received the message during install telling me that Nero was interrupted during install and couldn't complete. Anyone else with some ideas?

Look in the system tray down by your clock and check the icons there (run your mouse over them) and see if you notice something there that might be running that you can exit/disable.

Also, do a search for Roxio and delete anything it finds.
