burnner problem my PC is a mess please help

i have an old gateway Intel Inside celeron Pentium 2. windows 98 2nd addition
my hard drive went out and i installed a new one. I did not know what size i had in my PC but i bought a 80 Gig hard drive to install. my PC handled it. I have 256 MB of RAM. File system is 32 bit. my virtual memory is 32 bit.befor my hard drive went out i instaled a roxio bunner and it worked just fine. now for some reason i cannot get it to work. i have tried to reinstall the software several times still can't get it to work. i do not like the burn program it came with and don't know if it will work with another program i like nero. and have access to a nero burn program. i have everthing backed up for my PC i am willing to take every thing off and to start over if that is what it takes. to have my burnner working. my performance is way down the only thing i use on my PC is adobe photoshop 7 with a lot of filters, brushes, actions, styles and all the extra things you can get to work with this program. i use to have a lot of things on my PC and my preformance stayed a 86 percent i have done a mscinfig and turned off all the programs running in the background that i know what they are some things have technical names that i don't know what they are, so i dont turn them off . IF i am asking for to much help i will understand. i am also willing to give my phone number to get help or i can call anywhere in the US for free (kind of) to talk to someone to help me. please help me ! the softwear that i have my nephew gives to me, i guess i am not suppose to have it, but it is orginal softwear that he has bought and does not use anymore. not the windows and roxio are mine.

 

Have you tried upgrading the firmware for the drive?
You might have to upgrade Roxio, check their website
and donwload the latest patches/drivers.

 

i tried to up date it but sence you asked me this i am there now and found something new to read about this thanks for your input.and so fast too!

 

i looked and cannot find the error problems i am having. i have bran new cd's (blank) i only make date cd's and i have bought the right blank cd's for data. i keep getting a msg. saying the it is not right media. my softwear also does a disk format so i can drag files it won't let me do this either. format that is.

 

roxio talks about a worm hole or virus i do not have that problem but i tried to follow there ins. like i had this prob. but where it said to do a step like right click and choose permision i did not have option and could not find it. please don't give on me yet!
