Do you know whether you have an AGP slot?

If you dont download this and see. Or just post the model name and number and I will check for you. eg dimension 2400.

dude you have to check your mother board first.. if your video card is compatible with your board. or its much better to check dell's web site and check for the specs of your dell's pc.

    There are no other options.

You can either leave it, buy a PCI video card, or change the motherboard etc.

The fastest PCI video card that I'm aware of is an nVidia 5700, although I can't remember if it was an LE.

LE stands for Limited Edition, which is a fancy way of saying it's a dumbed down version.

If you are going for a PCI card, at least get the best available, and make sure it's not an LE or SE or Lite etc if possible.

whats the difrence between LE or SE and normal?

No the 5700LE sucks big time. I had one. It lagged on Halo and I had the AGP edition.

You are correct! You do not have an AGP slot and you do have 2 free PCI slots.

I would go with the jaton video card because i've got a geforce fx 5700le and the board was made by jaton and it works good, Plus i don't agree with trunksthebattler the 5700le is a great video card for around $90,00 and i've got the agp version, lol.:)

    FX5500
    Memory Size - 256MB
    Core Speed - 270MHz
    Fill Rate - 1080 MTexels/s
    Memory Bus - 128-bits
    Memory Speed - 400MHz
    Memory Bandwidth - 6.4 GB/s
    Vertex Pipelines - 2
    Pixel Pipelines - 4
    Pixel Shader Engines - 4

    FX5700LE
    Memory Size - 128MB
    Core Speed - 250MHz
    Fill Rate - 1000 MTexels/s
    Memory Bus - 64-bits
    Memory Speed - 200MHz
    Memory Bandwidth - 6.4 GB/s
    Vertex Pipelines - 3
    Pixel Pipelines - 4
    Pixel Shader Engines - 4

Well I would have to go with the FX5500. Also if you want you can check www.shopping.com to see if they have the card you are looking for for less.

All specs other than memory size came from Adrian's Rojak Pot

Oops. The Memory Bus on the 5700LE is actually 128-bits.

You can't go by the specs alone. The GPU has a part to play also.

It's simple, a 5700 (even an LE) is more powerful than a 5500.

sooo um can i get a final answer on which 1 i should buy?

I just told you, the 5700.

Preferably not an LE, but you may not have a choice.

The higher the GPU number, the more powerful. EG a 5700 is more powerful than a 5500 as far as nVidia is concerned (ATI use their own numbering)

  27. I_DROWN_FISH

    I_DROWN_FISH Private E-2

    ... but i need atleast 256MB...

The 5700 is a faster GPU than the 9250, even if it only has 128MB.

Ask around, they may make one, but if not, I'd still go for the 5700.

  30. splitt3r

splitt3r You are now the victim of a drive by title change

why is it so important that you have 256mb? what are you using the computer for anyway?and I would agree on the 5700 btw.I have a 6600gt which is a MUCH better gpu and it has only 128mb and runs just fine.

  31. I_DROWN_FISH

    I_DROWN_FISH Private E-2

    I play games

  32. Wyatt_Earp

    Wyatt_Earp MajorGeek

More memory doesn't necessarily mean better performance. For instance, you would be better off with a Geforce 6600GT w/ 128Mb versus that FX5700 w/256Mb. And in some instances, the 256 Mb versions of cards perform worse than that of 128Mb. In nearly all cases, the GPU makes a much bigger difference than the amount of memory.

    So, go for the FX5700LE.

  33. hugh750

    hugh750 MajorGeek

I agree with you wyatt earp, all games will work with a video card that has 128 megs of ram, 256 isn't going to make any differance.

  34. I_DROWN_FISH

    I_DROWN_FISH Private E-2

I paly CS. Please make sure it is enough 2 play that game.

You don't have a huge choice in PCI video cards.

The 5700 LE is about the fastest I've seen and probably as good as it's going to get.

  36. Wyatt_Earp

    Wyatt_Earp MajorGeek

    CS or CS:Source?

Either of those cards will play CS just fine. If you're talking about CS:Source, you might be better off saving some money and upgrading your motherboard and video card (and possibly CPU, RAM and Case/Power Supply).

  37. hugh750

    hugh750 MajorGeek

128 Megs of video ram is more then enough to play counter strike.

  38. I_DROWN_FISH

    I_DROWN_FISH Private E-2

yea i am talking about source

  39. hugh750

Then your good to go with the 5700le.

  40. Insomniac

It will play source OK, but it won't be at high resolutions or detail.

If you want anything better, you will have to change the motherboard.

  41. I_DROWN_FISH

DONT TOUCH MY MOTHER BOARD! HAHHAAH Umm did u check the consumer reports for the card u want me to get? They all said that card fried in a short amount of tries. I have defeated the Geeks!

  42. Insomniac

Insomniac Billy Ray Cyrus #1 Fan

No I didn't check consumer reports, nor do I give them much relevance.

Also, I did not tell you to buy or not buy anything.

You asked what your options are, and were advised of what is available and what is the most powerful.

If you really want my opinion, I don't think PCI video cards are worth it.

If I was a gamer, I would just change the motherboard, but that's me.

  43. I_DROWN_FISH

    yea thats also $300
