I don't know. I would think it would be ok, but the burning might be slower than on a newer system.

However, IMO, $99 is too much to spend on a DVD burner. You can easily get one for under $40. Something like this:

Or this is the newer version of the drive that I have. It's been great. Nothing to complain about:

Or if you want one with Lightscribe:

I agree with Wyatt on this one , Plextor does not even manufacture their own drives they outsource to other companies. The Benq drive is a very high rated drive, the only Benq drive i would not get is the DQ60. The DQ60 was not made by Benq but out sourced to Teac. If I were going to get another DVD burner I would go with the 1655 from Benq.

I always go for the fastest drive thats available and in review has made few burning errors, the fastest tested speed that is,not whats on the box,the faster the drive the more headroom you have to slow the the read\write speed down to compensate for errors, there are new drives out almost every week each may have their own reliability problems which will only be shown over time.

I'd rather have the fastest drive than a slower one that may have proven its reliability,if the drive goes within a couple of months I'll return it,if not should be good for a couple of years,in my experience compared to other components burners are tanks :)

Thanks for all your suggestions,I'll have to check out some more reviews and rating before I choose a burner. Anybody have any favorites and not the cheap ones just a good fast DVD Burner. I'm still looking at that PX740A,what do you guys think.

I'd go for the Pioneer DVR-110D or the LG GSA-4167B.

They are both excellent burners, and also support DVD RAM.

You can't really judge burners based on price.

That used to be true when the technology was new, but they have come a long way since then in quality and price.

Plextors are great, but I can't see anything different to make me want one over the others.
