Buying a new cpu: need input:
Been considering Dell, lots of advertising they have out there. But, willing to spend more than buying a Dell if it is worth it. A cpu purchase is a 10 year investment for me. Primary use will be copying VHS to DVD, but also typical household web browsing and email. Would like dependable hardware, quality build etc. Was told IBM machines are much better? Any input appreciated.

Uhm ... CPU? I think you mean the entire machine. A CPU is only the processor, and I'm pretty sure Dell doesn't make those.
