    hey everyone,

Has been really long since I logged in to my beloved site..So heres is my question..

I am planning to buy a laptop..say for about $800-$900. I will be using it for office work. Would be using it mainly for office work..say microsoft office/PDFs. Also I would be accessing my office machine through home. Looks and style is not a big concern. Also I dont have any special preference for Intel or AMD. I would like to stick to what performs best.

Hey I need to buy is as soon as possible.

    Please Advise.
Thanks and Regards(I am sorry If its not the right place or way to ask:eek: )

I'm a desktop kind of guy. For a laptop, you should look for these:

Intel Centrino or AMD Turion or dual core CPU
    512MB - 1GB memory
    40GB hard disk
15" wide screen active matrix TFT LCD
    CDRW/DVD combo or DVDRW burner
    Built-in Wireless G card
    Ethernet
    PC Card type II

Any brand you want. Look for a deal. Biz people seem to favor IBM & DELL. Compaq is nice.

Everything but the memory amount worries me. 256 is too little by today's standard. 512mb would be minimal. 1gig would be good.

The price is a little high if it's USD.

I have an acer travelmate 8104. my laptop is great, never had any problems until i got malware on it cos im an idiot. My friend has an aspire with the crystalbrite screen and it looks incredible. i would definatly recommend acer but like the others said, get one with higher RAM

Yeah I would upgrade the RAM to say 512 or 1 GB.

Just want to be sure about AMD and the configuration otherwise. I have always used Intel.

    Thanks a lot for replying.

Don't get suckered into duo-core. As yet, single programs do not make efficient use of duo-core processors, IMHO.
Don't know about Duo-Core 2 , though. Vista might be better than XP for duo-core.
At least that is the rumour. Get as much RAM as you can. At least1 gig, in one stick.
That will allow for future expansion, more easily. Bazza

    Questions:

    1. Is AMD Turion™ 64 MK36 processor (Offered with ACER) single Core? (I guess yes)

    2. Will I be ablt to run Windows Vista on both of them? (Does being single or dual core plays a part in that or its just 32or 64 bit thing)

    3. Which processor seems to be better?

    Please reply!

    Thanks for the reply.

What about 64 bit and 32 bit debate over Vista? I thought its for just 64 bit processors?
