Buying DVD Videos.

I have an older friend who is obsessed with Hayley Mills movies. Last year I bought 2 of her movies (new) on Amazon for $10,00 + $ 5,00 shipping. Unfortunately, the other movies my friend wants are costing double that.
Is there a similar reputable site anyone can recommend? I am not interested in buying pre-owned DVDs.

I'm assuming you are limited by where the site is located and ships from? There are a lot of DVD places out there.

Amazon shipped the 2 DVDs I ordered from Europe - I think it was Switzerland. $5,00 per DVD is reasonable for shipping. The problem is the movies my friend wants are costing between $20,00 and $30,00, and the ZAR/US$ exchange rate is about 12 to 1. If you know of reputable online dealers, kindly let me know. I will find out whether they ship to SA and what the costs are.

FYI We're not cheapskates but, for $2,00 I can buy a loaf of sliced white bread and a litre of full cream milk!

So she definitely wants dvds? If she has wifi, I'd be tempted to see if she wanted you to buy her a Roku or something like that where you can buy the streaming version from Amazon and pull it off your library anytime you want.

What movies are you looking for?

Yes, she wants the original DVDs. Streaming a full lenght (2 hours) movie at DVD quality is not an option for us even though I'm paying only about $10,00 for 4 GB/month. Because of the relatively low cost, the ISPs in SA limit the download/streaming speeds. And dropped connections do happen.

    She's looking for:

    1. The Truth About Spring aka Pirates Of Springcove.

    2. Pretty Polly aka A Matter Of Innocence.

PS Please tell me more about the Roku. Thanks.

It looks like Pretty Polly was never made into a DVD? Also, an interesting thing I've never noticed before is that Amazon has an on demand DVD manufacturing business, which The Truth about Spring is: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/help/cus...d_t=201&pf_rd_p=2099406662&pf_rd_i=B00N47NW38

I've never seen that, but would suspect that is why it's much more expensive than others.

Unfortunately, I don't have any suggestions for you as far as getting these.

I've been using a Roku for years now: https://www.roku.com/. While you can stream from your laptop, this is just much easier. It's a very small box you attach to your tv via HDMI. It stays plugged in and you don't have to mess around with connection stuff. It comes with hundreds of 'channels' such as Netflix and Amazon. It's just a really easy way to get on demand movies and tv shows. You do have to have accounts with the various channels you like and some are monthly fee services (ie. Netflix, Hulu Plus), while some you pay per movie or episode (Amazon).

You do have to have a good internet connection, though. ("Roku players should work well with almost any broad-band connection. We recommend a minimum of 3.0 Mbps for HD content (1.5Mbps for SD)")

    Thank you Laura.
I'll talk to her and then she has to decide. I did visit Roku's website and it does seem like that's the better option.

    Thanks again. :)
