Buying New Windows 10 Laptop - Importance Of Cpu Choice?

In searching for a new Windows 10 laptop, I find that a laptop can come in several versions and differ in price by up to approx. $200 with the only difference between versions being the CPU. The more expensive version of the laptop has a faster CPU. The question is whether I should pay the extra $200?
My use of the laptop: Microsoft Office, web searching, photo editing, streaming videos

Thoughts? Comments?

 

RAM is also important.

A quad core CPU (AMD is cheaper) with a minimum 8gig of RAM will do all you require!

Choice of HDD will also factor into purchase price...….An SSD drive will see great performance, but comes with a larger cost.

I would echo Replicator's comments.

Min 8Gb ram.

SSD's are great but there is a big difference in speed between say the Corsair BX range and the Samsung Pro range (I have used both)

I would personally prefer to spend the extra $200 in those 2 areas than having the best cpu possible with little ram and a crappy SSD or god forbid a mechanical HDD

 

Double check that. Ensure the screen size is also the same and the screen display properties are the same too.

You say "only" and that may be true. But it is important to remember with many notebooks, the CPU also integrates the GPU. So a better CPU will typically get you a better graphics solution too - a good thing.

I would definitely go with a SSD over a hard drive. SSDs are faster, lighter, consume less power (for longer battery run times), are faster, make no noise, and generate less heat (always important with notebooks). Did I mention they are faster?
