Some of you may not believe this story, I couldn't at first, anyway,

I was walking out of my place yesterday afternoon, when this deranged insect flying at warp speed smashed into the side of my face.

It actually hurt it was going so fast.

Then, it quickly scurried into my right ear, and was buzzing around trying to get out.

All this took only a few seconds, but I knew what it was.

I spent all last night unsuccessfully trying to sleep, with my whole head buzzing.

The sensation was extremely uncomfortable, so I went to the local medical centre.

The doctor had a look, flushed it out (it was a thing like a small beetle), and said it was a common occurrence.

You'll all be happy to hear I'm now insect free, at least in my ear. :)

Same thing happened to an ex-colleague, at the last mine that I worked in.
A bug flew into his ear, and the pain got worse and worse. He started to lose his balance. When the First Aid ladies eventually flushed it out of his ear, they couldn't believe how any bug, so big, could get so far down into his ear.

He is now slightly paranoid when any bugs fly around him.
Lots of them, in far out Western Queensland, where we were. Bazza

i would have to curl up and die. that would totally freak me. i once got stung in my ear by a yellow jacket (wasp like thing). it was so painful i cannot adequately describe it. people were doing all sorts of things to alleviate it, like putting chewed up tobacco on it. (yuk). in the end someone poured half a bottle of tequila down my throat! when i woke back up it had subsided a bit. worse pain ive ever had (barring childbirth of course)

I couldn't even imagine how agonising that would be if I was stung there.

This bloody thing was so stupid, you'd think it would travel towards the light to get out (no jokes, I'm way ahead of you :) ), but instead it burrowed inwards.

Maybe it was going to the light coming from the other ear.:)

I believe it. Had one hit the side of my face once on the lake, I was certain it went in my ear. I worried about it all night.

Remember that movie about the Earwig, creepy.

Yep, a reasonably common occurrence to have insects, or other bug-type creatures entering the ear canal, and deciding to 'go deeper', instead of flying/crawling out. The worst I’ve had in Australia is a stoopid fly going down my ear. I ended up squishing it in my ear and washing the little beggar out. Ugh!

Had an incident in my old nursing days of some woman being admitted into the E.R., in some sort of major distress, thinking she was going crazy. From memory, I think that was some sort of little moth flapping around.

I was camping years ago, and had a small beetle type bug crawl into my ear -
must have been while I was sleeping, 'cause I certainly felt it when I woke up. Fortunatly my brother, the consummate woodsman, was able to get it out with a tick-removal tool . . . kind of like a spring-loaded chip remover, but much smaller. Not a good camping memory . . .

Yeah, pretty gross. I had a teacher in high school that had a cockroach crawl into his ear while he was sleeping. He had to get it flushed too.

I haven't had a bug in my ear, but when I was about 3 or 4, my uncle and I were eating apples, and he spit an apple seed in the air and it landed in my ear. Being the little kid I was, I tried to get it out, and pushed it farther in. I had to go to the doctor to have it taken out.
I don't remember it, but still to this day get reminded about it
