I installed a new HD into Dell Optiplex GX400 and loaded XP SP1 onto it. It had a 18 Gb HD but only used 2 Gb. It now always says I'm running out of disk space. Can I move all of it to "C"?

If you're sure that you've only used two gigs it might be an error in free space reporting. In that case you can try using chkdsk. you could also try using an application called spacemonger. It maps out your whole hard drive and gives you a good idea of what's using the most space.

What do you mean by moving it to c?

Yeah, I was going to ask the same thing ;)
Windows XP itself, with no drivers, updates, and no software, is just under 2gb. After installing updates and drivers, this can double or triple (or more). Then you add some other stuff like Adobe Reader, FlashPlayer, the Java Runtime Enviornment (stuff that's basically needed for everyday PC use, not necessary, but it makes life alot easier) and a few applications like office, and IE is updated IE7 or you add Firefox or whatever, and the next thing you know, you're over 30gb! 20gb is really not enough for just regular PC usage. XP is happiest when you have at least 5gb free just for the paging and swap files......

Don't be to disturbed by only having a 20 gig harddrive. I have 100's of programs on my 60 gig C Drive but only using around 12 giigs (see thumbnail)

What you might be seeing is the DELL protected drive, containing all the stuff that DELL originally loaded.

Have you checked your BIOS to see what hard drive is set to boot from. It is usually "C", of course. Bazza
