Strange problem. When I go to "My Computer" and double click on the C Drive (says address C) all the files appear but within a few seconds the window closes and brings me back to the desktop. Same thing happens if I try to access the directories from the start bar. I right-click, select explorer and see all the files but if I click on local disc C the window closes and brings me back to the desktop. I have Windows XP Professional. It only happens on my user profile.

    Greetings, leeleebb1...

Is this the same machine mentioned in this thread? If so, then it's possible that either the ZeroAccess or the removal procedures corrupted that particular profile - I suggest creating another profile with the same user restrictions as the one in question, then deleting the problem profile...

Is this the same machine mentioned in this thread? No that was my laptop, this problem is on my desktop HOWEVER, I had to post an image from the infected laptop and the only way I knew how to do it was to copy the image to a jump drive take it to the desktop and upload the image. Did I mess up my desktop profile by doing that??

I doubt a screenshot messed anything up.
Do you have any video files in C:\ folder?

You think you have a movie file in C:\? Sometimes Windows' attempts to create a thumbnail for movie files will crash explorer. I'm unsure if the problem can be limited to a single user account but it can't hurt to turn preview off and see if any change. If no change just turn it back on. No need to restart in between--the change takes place immediately.

Is this XP? If so you can give it a quick try.

I tried to copy files from my old user profile to a new user profile as setup in the microsoft support How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151 when I got to this step:3.Locate the C:\Documents and Settings\Old_Username folder, where C is the drive on which Windows XP is installed, and Old_Username is the name of the profile you want to copy user data from.

I couldn't access my C:\documents and settings/old_username folder from any other user including adminstrator in safe mode because it says it's empty?? Yet if I log in under my user profile in safe mode I can see all my documents/ files and it doesn't close out like it does in regular mode.
