C++ error

I use soulseek (p2p sharing) and often get this error :
Microsoft Visual C++ Library runtime error
abnormal program termination .

From a little research, i see that this might be a buffer overflow, perpetrated by malicious users with a known exploit.
Does anyone know of a way i can "patch" this so i dont get these errors anymore ?
I dont know which versoin of VC++ i have, im trying to figure that out right now, maybe i dont have the newest version, or maybe theres a patch or something.
Does anybody know anything about this problem and maybe how to solve it ?

I should have said PROBABLY perpetrated by malicious users , im not sure.

 

Usually this is a problem with the compile the developer used. You have an old version of C++ definitions installed, but (s)he used a newer version. The most recent is the 2005 runtime: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...EE-A3F9-4C13-9C99-220B62A191EE&displaylang=en
