Were these just temp install files, that are safe to delete if sp2 is already installed? Or is this where sp2 IS installed...

personally I wouldnt delete that folder as it holds all the SP2 files, so if you were to want to add/remove or fix a component ( Windows File Protection or SFC uses this folder for files ) you will need a SP2 CD or those files again.

    More info for you

Delete the hidden folder of files that would be restored by an uninstall: C:\Windows\$NTServicePackUninstall. Once this is done, if you try to use the ‘Remove’ for Service Pack 2 in Add/Remove Programs, that will fail and will offer to delete the entry.

That's somethign I found in the link you gave me. Isn't that saying if you delete the uninstall folders, sp2 cannot be un-installed?

And C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution had 3 files that some process is using. I deeleted all but those three...nothing will come out of that in a bad manner, will it?

    The %systemroot%\Servicepackfiles Folder

IMPORTANT: Do not delete or move this folder.

NOTE: The %systemroot% environment variable refers to your Windows folder.

This folder contains files that are required when you add or remove optional Windows components. This folder is also used by Windows File Protection (WFP) to replace damaged or changed protected system files.
