C++

Im currently learning Visual Basics in School. I find it to be really easy and I kind of feel im waisting my time since it seems to have a certain limit but I guess im hoping it helps me later down the road with the more advanced computer languages.
The next course which is the second one to the Visual Basics is Java. I was wondering if Java is somewhat like C++ and that if I learn Java I should have a better understanding of C++?

 

Yeah Java is somewhat like C++. The code looks the same and so it shouldn't as hard as it would if you didn't know C++. I think if you learn Java, you should be able to understand C++ a little, but I don't think you will be able to make programs with it right away.

 

Yea Java is very very similar to C++.

You'll find that a lot of languages of a similar level are very similar and feature almost identical syntax for the core functions (for loops, while loops, if statements etc) - this will probably require a slight adjustment from how you do things in Visual Basic...

Java will introduce you to the world of Object Oriented programming (which is something that C++ supports, but C doesn't) and let you get to grips with this... A subtle difference between C++ and Java is that Java is completely Object Oriented... C++ isn't...

 

I am in complete agreeance with all that's been said.. Java is very similar to C++ however for you my only concern is that (I am assuming VB was the first exposure to programming) you've kinda been spoiled with Visual Basic lol... VB is VERY easy to program in when compared to languages like C++ and Java... so just be advised that going from VB to either C++ or java will take GREAT adjusting syntactically... but if VB was taught to you first as part of a curiculum than they probably wanted you to get the natural eb and flow of programming in general which carries over through many languages.
