    Just so I get a feel for what OS, PC and driver you are using could you answer these questions,

    Which Windows version you using?
    Which model Compaq PC?
    and where did you download the driver from?

    In Hardware Devices do you have any yellow ! marks, if so by what?

    when you unzipped the driver file you downloaded, was their a setup.exe file inside or just various files and no file called setup?

    Cheers :)

    :(
    os=windows xp home
    PC=compaq presario SR1110NX w/intel celeron 325(speed=2.53Hz)
    downloaded "update fix" from scientific atlanta website.
    no yellow "!" anywhere on tree (or in folders)
    looked at unzipped file and there are only .sys,.cat,.inf and some .EXE and .TXT but no "set up" to be found anywhere...

    ah ok, try this then....

    goto device manager and open up the driver properties for the Modem in question > choose the driver tab > Update Driver > at next window which is Driver Wizard pick "install from a list or specific location" > Next > you will then have to browse to the location of the folder you unzipped and click it to open, then click OK and follow the prompts.

    ohh depending on XP version or Service Pack the instructions maybe like this, at home now and PCs are different.

    goto the same location as in Device Manager > locate the Modem > double click or right click and choose properties > Driver tab > Update Driver ( and this is where it clould be different ) >

    choose "No not at this time" > Next > Install from a specific location > Next > leave search these locations checked but uncheck the CD media option and then click browse > locate the folder with the drivers in > click OK > Next > follow the prompts, if the driver is compatible it will install, if not it will tell you then we can look for a different driver or fix.
