Calling all GEEKS - XP Fax problemo

OK, so this one has been driving me barmy! I use XP Fax console loads to fax from word/excel etc. It has suddenly stopped working on me. When I go to print to fax, I go through the fax wizard as per normal, hit finish and then nothing happens. The fax monitor doesn't pop up.

If I then go into the fax console, my fax is just sitting there in the outbox with a little red cross by it, and in the Extended Status column it says "Fatal Error".

I know I must have done something for this to happen - things very rarely stop working of their own accord, but I can't get it to work again for the life of me. Searched lots of knowledge base sites, and even repaired office and windows using the installation discs. It still aint working.

Other info which might be useful - the modem is a HSP56 MR if thats any use. Worked fine with faxes for ages.

These are the things I have done:

1) Deleted the fax from the printers folder and re-installed/reconfigured
2) Delated Fax and then reinstalled it using installation disc in "Add/Remove windows components"
3) Deleted & re-installed Modem driver
4) Repaired Office using installation disc
5) Repaired Windows using installation disc

Nothing has helped!

According to the help file, it says that the message i'm getting means the "The fax device encountered a protocol error, and could not complete the call." However, it gives no clues as to how to fix this...

Anyone had this problem? Anyone got any ideas?
