I've had it with Java, NOT JavaScript. Don't even know if I need it. So I deleted both the 32 and 64 bit latest version and used JavaRa to clean up the remnants.

However When I check with Search Everything software I still see some remnants. Will it be okay to remove all these as well? I've attached a pic and the ones I'm talking about are within the 2 red-lined boxes.

I'll find out if in future I need Java and then will download it.

    Thanks!

Regarding the two deployJava1.dll files; they are part of Java - I don't know why they were left behind after the uninstall. I suggest that you unregister them before deleting.

Looks ok to me, a couple are the JavaRA program itself. Let me know!

Thanks pwillener. But how do I *unregister* the 2 above-mentioned files prior to deleting them?
    TIA

I'm no expert on Java because I haven't used Java in almost 2 years ago. My computer runs great and only a few websites complain of no Java but I can happily live without going there ;)

I recently had a new hard disk installed and decided to start fresh instead of using an image, I downloaded and installed all new software.
    I did not install Java

I just did an Everything Search and I do not have any of the files you have 'boxed'
So it should be ok to delete them

See the screen shot for the Everything Search results for my XP SP3

Thanks MA, not sure what you mean to say by *looks ok to me*. So can these 5 folders showing at the top, including the update, deleted or not?

I did delete the 32 and 64 bit by using Add/Remove Program. Then used JavaRa, deleted this old JavaRa, then installed the new version of JavaRa and subsequently ran the New JavaRa.

Strange thing is that the Firefox Plugin Check produces this message: see pic., although both versions of Java JRE were removed. No plugin of Java JRE showing there. So therefore I thought not all was removed.

    Thanks!!

Thanks MadMal. Looking good on your PC! I will delete first the JavaRa that I installed and see what would be left after the install. Then will take the chances to start deleting them. Thanks again.

Open a Command Prompt window, then enter the following sequence of commands
    Code:
    cd \windows\system32
    regsvr32 /u deployjava1.dll
    cd \windows\syswow64
    regsvr32 /u deployjava1.dll
    exit

These commands are not case-sensitive, so all can be typed in lowercase.

Okay, deleted all and the *Sun* empty folders as well. Thing is that Firefox still gives me the same message as Java being disabled to to being outdated (shown in a previous pic) Therefore I think that I still have something Java on my PC or Firefox Plugin Check has it all wrong. Perhaps the update request is still somewhere there? Thanks all!!

PS: @pwillener, got the command prompt successfully!

JavaRa software is located in My Documents, so that's not it.

    Hi Oma.

I'm following this thread because I recently uninstalled Java and ran JavaRA 2.0.
JavaRA does not appear in Add or Remove Programs because it is a stand alone program.
You can Filter Out all instances of JavaRA and javascript in Everything Search by adding that to Tools -> Options -> Exclude tab.
Exclude JavaRA*.* > Files and Folders
Exclude *javascript*.* > Files and Folders

I get the Same message at the Firefox Check Your Plugins page when using
Opera 11.64, Pale Moon 15.0 and Firefox 15.0.1.

I have Not UnRegistered the two .dll files
    C:\Windows\system32\deployJava1.dll
    C:\Windows\system32\npDeployJava1.dll

(I'm using Win XP, so not the same as your Win 7)

The Java Deployment Toolkit plugin is Disabled in both Firefox and Pale Moon.

Hi jmnc, Yeah, you uninstalled Java as well eh? :) Oh, It seems that all Java stuff is gone from my PC, except for some folders named JavaSoft. Not sure about those so left them alone although suspect they're Java as well. Yes, I always choose zips, standalone etc. software to be installed in My Documents.

There's a way to uninstall the Java Deployment Toolkit from Firefox and Pale Moon. NO, the plugin is NOT installed in Firefox/Pale Moon.

Prior to do the below you will need to enable the Java Development Toolkit in Firefox and Pale Moon. That's to find the pathway of Development Toolkit.

    In Firefox:
    1. type about:config in the addressbar and type in the search bar: plugin.expose_full_path and set it to true.(toggle)
    2. type: about.plugins in the addressbar and there you will find the path as to where you can find those entries such as Java Deployment Toolkit
    3. Write down the path and exit Firefox.
    4. Go to the path and delete the entry. That's what always worked for me in Win 7 and XP.

The above 4 steps will remove the Java Deployment Toolkit from Firefox AND Pale Moon.

PS: for security reasons toggle the plugin.expose_full_path back to false.

npDeployJava1.dll = Java Deployment Toolkit. I always removed it after an update to Java but got fed up with uninstalling it and therefore uninstalled Java.

I'm bookmarking this so I can revisit it later.
I have Java uninstalled from all but one computer in the house. (I never installed it in Win 7 so I couldn't check for the dlls you mentioned).
The one computer (XP) it is on, I have it disabled in IE and FF. Unfortunately, I need it for one web site or it would be gone from that computer too.

I used JavaRA. I will have to fire up each computer and look for the items you mentioned to see if anything is still hanging around. That's why I have this bookmarked this thread.

I appreciate it very much plodr you looking into this. JavaSoft seem to be the ones left that are a mystery to me, although googling about it seem to point to Java. From what I recall these hide in the registry. Yes, I used JavaRA as well, first the old version and then the new one, v 2. Java = octopus, having its tentacles everywhere. :-D

First computer: XP Pro, I saw I still had the Java Deployment Toolkit (disabled) so I got rid of it.
When I went searching I have something labeled XnpdeployJava1.dll in my FF plugins folder. There is no info on that just on npdeployJava1.dll

I have a Sun folder too. C:\Windows\Sun\Java\Deployment that is empty.
    I don't have JavaSoft.

Good to have gotten rid of JDTK. I just googled for XndeployJava1.dll and didn't find anything on it either.

I deleted all empty Sun folders I had and so far all is fine.

Also I'm sure that JavaSoft has to do with Java but will leave it alone.

It just irks me a lot to see Firefox Plugin Check's message
DUH!! :( Something is wrong, either Fx's page is giving me a wrong message or there is still some remnant of Java on my PC. Thanks so much for your help plodr!!

De nada mjnc! Yep, had that ghacks page bookmarked a long time ago. The other websites weren't too helpful I think but thanks anyway. Some more digging to be done and if nothing found, will leave Java alone.

If you type about:addons into the address bar in Firefox, then click on Plugins, what Java version does it list?

2nd computer (64 bit Win 7 Home Premium), nothing to see. 4 files with java in the names but they all refereed to javascript.

3rd computer (XP Home). This one was one I brought back from the dead. It belonged to a friend and I had no disks so I cleaned it up the best I could. It didn't have the Deployment Toolkit but one folder had lots of items. While I was busy erasing, I had a sinking feeling because I saw Corel mentioned. This computer has WordPerfect Office 11 and I was afraid I might have broken something. I rebooted and launched WordPerfect. It seems okay. I'm not wiping anything else off.

4th computer runs Win 2K. No Deployment Toolkit but lots of Sun folders. This computer is my husband's workhorse and he uses Corel 8 a lot. I'm not wiping a thing. If I break it, he will be very unhappy!

4 of the computers have this xnpdeploymentJava1 in the Mozilla FF plugins folder. The date seems to be from 2010. I don't know when Oracle bought out Sun. It could be a new naming function or it could be a rename when switching from version 5 to 6.
I'll get rid of it on one of my computers and if the computer doesn't implode, I'll wipe it from the others. :-D

Computer 5 (XP Home) I have Java disabled so I won't wipe anything.
Computer 6 (Win 2K) also has Corel WP 7 so I don't want to mess with it.
Computer 7 (Win 2K) hasn't been on the internet in years. It is a laptop from 2001 which can freeze up. I restore an image and it is fine. I use it to watch DVDs so whatever is on it can remain.

P.S. if you type about:plugins into the Firefox address bar, it should give you the actual name of the plugin (npjp2.dll) and the version.

Zilch, nada, just the 2 plugins I have, Silverlight and Shockwave Flash. See my pic in post #8 and the message therein that an older version of Java is disabled. This happened after I uninstalled all pertaining to Java 7 Update 7 and using JavaRa. :confused

Plodr, I have Wordperfect Office 12 also on Win 7 and it seems to work fine. It even converted a doc. I have lying around. (Microsoft Word Compatibility)

I can't find any xnpdeploymentJava1 anywhere on my drive. Thanks for your tenacity. You're the best!

Even google gives no hits. It seems my computers are the only ones that have this plugin and it is on more than one computer. It's strange.

I'll do a bit more sleuthing to gather info on it before I wipe it.

oma, thanks for letting me know WordPerfect seems unaffected. I read somewhere that OpenOffice needs Java so that is a strike against using or recommending OpenOffice. I wonder if LibreOffice has that requirement?
I also know the Secunia Online scanner needs java. That's the reason I don't use the online scanner and instead download the personal inspector version.

    LibreOffice looks a bit better

Checked out the last JavaRa log and this is what it says:

Did some googling and found nothing solid pertaining to the above. Yikes!

Does Java use the Windows Uninstaller to remove Java? I don't remember.:( TIA for any additional info/help.

Hi mjnc. Many software come with their very own uninstaller. Guess Java doesn't? Hope we're on the same wavelength here.... ? As far as I remember the Java uninstall didn't look the same as other software uninstalls, but I could be mistaken. Darn, do I ever wish that I had never installed Java last December .....

  32. mjnc

    mjnc MajorGeek

Don't know about wavelength. Don't even know if I'm AM band or FM band. :-D

When you run Windows uninstaller, it looks for the software's own uninstaller, and that's what it runs.
If it does not find it, then you probably get an error message.

Base (the database component) indeed requires JRE, but LibO is trying to eliminate that requirement with a new SQL engine for the next major release. Base also is currently severely limited with a very old SQL specification.

I guess the same is also true for OpenOffice, except that Oracle will probably continue the Java dependency.

Good to know that LibreOffice will try to improve.

Had to reinstall Java 32 bit as my stand-alone calendar needed it, so far mainly to mouse over and correct any previous inputs. :( Darn, no system requirements were posted as needing Java! Have not reinstalled Java 64 bit yet though. (don't even know if that one is really necessary) In case you're interested which calendar I use it's this: http://www.efficientcalendar.com/download-freeware.htm

OT: I still miss the standalone Sunbird calendar (on XP) which was discontinued and not available at Mozilla nor finding it by googling for it. Although I managed to download it from a Dutch website a few months back, I haven't had the gall (courage) to install it on Win 7 ... yet.

PS: I don't want Thunderbird with its Lightning Calendar.

PPS: I and we learned a bit more about Java eh? Sorry for all the commotion caused and thanks all for your contribution!!

You might want to have a look at EssentialPIM
There is a a free portable version available at the authors site so you can try it without installing it.
I only use the portable version, it lives on my computer and I constantly backup the whole folder to a USB Flashdrive so I have a copy if my computer crashes plus it's ready to use on any computer at any time if necessary :cool

As I mentioned before, I don't have Java installed

Thanks MadMal. I've bookmarked the site and will investigate the recommended software. I've got a real physical calendar made out of paper (yes!) as a backup and some empty flash drives lying around, doing zilch.

Do you have any applications installed that require the Java runtime (e.g. OpenOffice or LibreOffice)?

If you do need Java, then you need only the latest version. If you have earlier versions installed, uninstall them.

Those are hard drive partitions. System reserved is usually the boot partition and PQservice is your backup partition as computers don't come with discs anymore.

Now you know... One last thing... Don't play with em :)
