    While the 2GB Crucial stick that I bought for a previous machine does "work" in my new machine, my understanding is that I "could do better", considering the differences/variances in frequencies, latencies, voltages, etc., now cohabiting the machine (two screenshots below).

    I'd be very interested to learn more here, as what I'm seeing from several searches is that I could improve performance with a "more perfect" matching of sticks...?

    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Glenn

    Does your PC work ok for the needs you have in relation to RAM? if so then things are fine.

    As for the question, various makers and batches of RAM can have differing performance, albeit slight if the RAM is the same version as in say DDR3 10700mhz so from say Crucial and Samsung the clock speeds may just be slightly different and ram will run at the lowest spec, which is why many state get matching pairs or sets of ram for ultimate performance.

    TBH the difference these days in ram if you have same type and clock speed is negligible to not be noticed in the real world, it may in some spurious testing apps, but daily you will never notice the difference.

    Great read for you HERE

    Thank you David...this is the sort of reassurance I was seeking,

    As to whether my PC 'works ok for the needs I have in relation to RAM', well, I suppose like most or many folks, there is always that nagging little question in the back of my mind;

    "could performance be increased...even just a slight bit, and would that be worth the price of more RAM or a new, matching set"?

    I suppose we never know if we don't try, and in the past I've always found it more cost effective to only add RAM, but I must admit, even in the 50%-100% increases I've added, any "gain" was barely noticeable.

    Thanks again as always David!

    Gain from changing the clock speed of the same category of RAM (DDR, DDR2 DDR3 etc) will not be noticeable for almost any user.
