I have a Cambridge Soundworks TXH 6.1 speaker system for my PC, and even when the system is muted, there is a low-volume hiss emitting from all speakers except the sub-woofer. I've tried turning the volume all the way up w/ no programs running that emit sound, and the hiss still exists. I've checked all the connections and they're correct and clean.

If you have a sound card like Creative Labs Live, Audigy, etc., try setting it to digital only in the settings.

There might be a problem w/ the speaker system:

While I do have an Audigy2 sound card, I tried disconnecting the audio cables from the pc to the speaker system, and the hiss is still there.

Where do I chose from analog and digital?

I tried removing the wired remote controller & the hiss went away, but alas, so did ALL the sound. I've looked on a lot of sites & forums, and unfortunately this seems to be a very common problem.
