I suddenly have my webcam on my desktop as one of those "imaging devices" that usually appear in My Computer and I want to get rid of it.

When I installed the drivers for my scanner that also happened, but after a reboot it went away into My Computer.

I tried rebooting and it doesn't go away. Going into the properties window doesn't help at all either.

My operating system is windows XP Pro SP2

I have included a screenie of a section of my desktop. Could somebody please help?

Well, I would have gotten rid of it already if it was a shortcut (notice there is no shortcut arrow on it). The thing is that it shows up as a camera on my desktop (when it's just supposed to be in My Computer). There is also an icon of it in My Computer. I just think it's annoying when it's on the desktop because it's not really supposed to be there. I attached a pic of the properties page for the icon on the desktop.

I think I would uninstall the Logitech software for your web cam and then reinstall it. During reinstallation, look carefully for a screen that asks you whether you want an icon on the desktop. My hunch is that it gives you that option during installation and you did not notice it, but I could be wrong.

It's not really a software installation. It just came on as the driver and there is no additional software. I will try reinstalling the driver and I'll see what happens.

    Hi

Delete the icon off the desktop and then check to see if the one in My Computer is still left their OK, if so your done, if not and for some weird reason the icons are linked, restore from the recycle bin or re-install the drivers.

Sadly some applications just think you want multiple icons on desktop, start menu and my computer etc.

I can't just hit delete and delete it. It's not an exe file or something. There is also no button saying remove from desktop. I am not meaning to ask whether or not it is safe to remove. I just want to know if it can be removed.

I reinstalled the drivers and sadly, I could not make any progress. And I was wrong about just restarting and the icon being gone. the scanner icon is gone just because the scanner is off.

As for Halo's instructions, it's not an application. It's just the plug and play drivers that come with windows. I don't know why they go on the desktop as they don't usually do that.
