HI, 1st time posting anywhere. I'm having a problem getting my windows xp-sp2 recognizing my camera so I can download pictures. I have an SD card and reader and that too is not read. I have run HIjack this but I don't know how to load it onto this post. Thanks in advance.

Exactly what happens when you connect the camera? Is the card reader an external USB device or is it an internal reader?

Do other USB devices work OK with your computer? Have you tried different USB ports? Are all your USB ports USB 2.0?

    Hi

Hijackthis is a very misunderstood tool its usage mearly to locate some browser hijackers and this is a malware issue and likely nothing to do with your camera not being recognised. The issue is likely to be in either the camera/SD reader driver or your PC not recognising the USB device when plugged in.

So can you tell us what the Camera and SD Reader makes and model versions are?

Is your PC a bought OEM one as in HP, DELL, SONY etc.. if so what make and model number?

If you open Device Manager do you have any yellow ! marks by any devices, if so what are they?

    To open Device Manager either
Click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System then click the Hardware tab and then Device Manager.

    or

Right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware Tab and then Device Manager

Also what steps have you already taken to fix this, like have you tested the camera in another PC, have you installed any drivers and/or software that came with the two hardware devices, if at any stage when plugging in the camera or SD Card reader did you get any messages from Windows if so what were they?

    Thanks Sergeant Major,
OK, this particular computer has no 2.0 usb ports but they are all working well. I have another computer that is 2.0 and the same thing happens. The card reader is external and just has a slot for the SD. When I plug the camera in the computer says found new hardware and names the camera as hp 725 correctly and in Device Mgr. there is a yellow ? with the name hp camera 725 under imaging devices. I go to click install driver and the syster runs but can't find anything and comes back "class installer has denied..." and there is a code 28 with it. But I'm getting closer than before. Because prior it didn't even identify camera it just said unknown device.

    For Halo,
Yes I've tried all 3 of our other computers. All are xp-sp2. It works on our main computer. All computers were bought from a local business here that puts together their computers. We've had good luck with all of them except for this issue. Also we have an older HP camera that works beautifully on all computers. But we need to upgrade because we run a business and take thousands of pictures a year.
