I only can get into BIOS with my Keyboard LABTEC ("DEL") if i unplugged my USB Mouse from USB Port. Mouse turn on during POST and work well in Windows. Keyboard also works well in Windows with USB Mouse.

Weeks ago same problem happened, i borrowed a keyboard (Logitech) from a friend, it worked fine, and suddenly (magic?) my LABTEC worked perfectly again with USB Mouse connected to USB Port.

What kind of conflict is that? Is my LABTEC damaged, despite it worked smoothly in Windows... I tried connect the keyboard to PS/2 port with an adapter but it is not detected during Post (Keyboard Error)

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you.

Hi subLiminar and welcome to MG :) have you looked in 'Device Manager' to see if there are any yellow marks under 'Universal Bus Controller' ??? some motherboards with a USB keyboard do not 'post' far enough for the keyboard to become active so will require a PS/2 connection.

Thank you Toke. Everything is OK in Device manager...

    UPDATE:

Since my ASUS P4B266 motherboard is 9 years old (nice performance don´t you think? eheh), i bought a new battery. I cleared the BIOS CMOS, installed the new battery, and everything worked again, lets see how long it will last...

    Thank you for you support.

Also some older boards have an option in the BIOS to enable/disable USB keyboard support. Check your bios settings to see if your board has that setting.

Hi, get a ps/2 kb_boot up_press key button to access bios.
find (keyboard errors) in the bios post listing_change (report) to (do not report).
while you are in the bios_check mouse bios too, if you are having a problem with
it. if you were using a (ps/2 mouse), it will be post as (ps/2). (usb mouse) maybe post as (at).i think that (automation).
this keyboard failure and mouse is what i had with my old dell optiplex gx1 computer on 4/21/11. i plug in a dell usb kb and booted up and than my dell froze up. next came the keyboard failure error message. i did alot of things to get my kb and mouse to work.
so i search online to see if others had the same problem as i did. alot of talking about pressing this key, unplug power, take out cmos battery and bios. i don't know which site
the information came from, but the person was right. it's all in the bios. so taking my old
    ps/2 kb_plug it in_boot up_booting_enter bios pop up_press f2_bios posted.
i check my bios posting. my mouse is post as ps/2, but i have a usb mouse plug in.the mouse has been working alright until i plug in my usb kb. you may want to find the right setting for your mouse. i'm thinking that it make no different. i find that my dell kb is posted as (report). so i change it to (do not report). save changes are exit. booted up.
no more keyboard failure error message. it booted up_xp icon_welcome_windows xp pro.
start page. i'm worldwide now. hope this help! bye, Randy_man

    Hi,

I think Scajjr has the right answer. A nine year old MB/BIOS is not likely to run the USB ports until Windozw gets it feet on the ground. I keep a PS@ keyboard and mouse for troubleshooting those. MAYBE!

    Good Luck, Jim
