Can a mouse cause a crash?

I had issues with my laptop and crashes.

I have been doing well since doing a factory restore. Up until a few days ago, I had not installed my usb mouse (Logitech G5 gaming mouse). I decided to do so since I really need it to use Photoshop. I have had multiple crashes since intalling (I think while using the scrolling wheel).

I installed the right driver for my OS (win7 64bit) by going to Logitech's website.

Is it possible for a mouse to cause crashes??? :(

Sorry to have to tell you this Laura, but yes a mouse can cause a crash up to and including BSOD and start failure.

M/soft intellipoint had problems but fancy Logitechs have the worst rep. sorry.

PS: problems can often be cured by new mouse batteries.

Ugh. Thanks studiot. No batteries...it's usb.

Guess I'll be looking for a new one.

I unplugged it and so far, no crashes.:(

The fun just keeps on happening.

Is it possible to run it without the Logitech drivers?

This may produce reduced functionality but the standard components (left/right click, scroll wheel, forward/back etc) should all still work.

I've never tried to run it without the driver.

You think it's the driver causing the crashes and not the actual mouse? I'm not sure it isn't the scroll wheel.

Put it this way: Logitech drivers + windows 7 = bad mix (I've had problems as well)

Alternatively, can you test the mouse + drivers on another machine? Preferably one with a different OS.

It isn't new. I used it for 2-3 years on my XP machine.

Looks like I'm getting a new mouse, but I'll try to uninstall the driver and see if I have functionality without it.

Any suggestions on a manufacturer that's better for Win7?

I love this mouse too. It's weighted and set the way I like it. :(

    Any suggestions on manufacturer for

About the only competitor I can find in a very quick search for the G5 at the moment is something from Razer: http://www.razerzone.com/

I uninstalled all the Logitech software. The mouse is still functioning, so we'll see how that goes.

    Thanks again collinsl
