I have a Netgear USB wireless on my 2nd computer which will not work now.(been working fine prior to this incident described below)

I found in my system tray an icon to which records all of your activities, to which noone in my family installed. It required a password to view, to which none of us knew of course.

In trying to rid the computer of the spy program, we tried all of the Ad Aware, housecall online scan, my PC Tools antivirus & other online scanners, nothing detected it. (everything updated fully)

Ive done the msconfig/services & startup, along with the rest of the options there. I also did the ctrl alt delete & no programs listed there out of the norm.
Weve done a system recovery & a system restore to a prior date that we knew the spy program was not there, and that's when the Netgear USB adapter wouldnt work even though the spy program icon is no longer there.

Weve done 1 system recovery also & the Netgear still will not work.

Any help is greatly appreciated & thanks in advance.

What is the suspicious the "spy program" called? It would help us - to help you - if you tell us the exact name of the program in question (the name of the 'system tray' icon, etc).

    Good Luck!

If you did a recovery, or a system restore , you will have to reinstall the software for your router. ed

Do you mean a Netgear wireless router? If so and you haven't turned off "remote management" that means anyone who can get into your router using a wifi signal can change the SSID and password and lock you out of the router.
    Security things to do:
    1. Connect a wired computer to the router
    2. Change the SSID and the password to something not easily guessed
    3. Click on something like the Administration tab (not sure what it is called on the Netgear) and disable Remote Management

In the meantime, your router should have a reset button. I believe it you press that, everything will revert back to the factory default settings. Check your manual to see how long you need to hold in the reset button. Also if you do not have a paper manual, it is probably on the CD with the router software. Put the CD in a computer and explore it until you find the manual.

If you still have questions, please state the exact model of the Netgear.
