Can an "SCSI Raid Controller" do things other than Raid?

    I thought SCSI controller cards weren't specific in the task but I see some descriptions for SCSI "raid controllers" with no mention of being able to (or not to) do anything else, like an SCSI scanner. Does anyone know if there's a difference?
