Can anyone help me, I have a small database as far as computer knowledge goes

Ok, I am running stoooooopid win 98. Shortly after startup it sometimes freezes up and gives (msgsrv32 not responding) I still have a cursor but am unable to click and open anything. I have to turn power off and back on just to restart. When this started I also now have problems getting my dial up connection to connect. When the puter doesn't freeze and the connection actually decides to connect my ie is running so slow I think I gain a gray hair or 20 between pages, that is if I can even get my msn home page to ever decide to load!!!! Can anyone help??? Is there light at the end of the tunnel?? I know one of you will be able to, if not this laptop is gonna be target practice....lol Help, O' Computer Gods!

 

Will it start in safe mode?

If your not sure how to do this, this is what you do.
Reboot the computer.
Press and hold the DEL or Delete key on you keypad while it's booting.
You should be given a list of choices.
One of them should say "Safe Mode"
If you do not get a list of choices, then do this.
Reboot
After the screen that says something about BIOS goes away,
press the F8 key, this should also take you to a screnn that gives you a list of choices.
When one of these gets you to the list, select safe mode.
If Windows starts that way, come back and let us know.

 

All that will do is put the user into BIOS setup (usually). It won't say anything about safe mode.

You need to tap F5 or hold both Ctrl keys while booting to get the option to run in safe mode. (windows 98)

Sorry, Goldfish is right, holding the control key down should get you to the menu.


I realized what I posted after I left the house and didn't have a chance to come correct it till now.

 

It starts in safe mode. Just can't figure out why the heck I keep getting the error message and the annoying frozen computer syndrome....lol
