This is not a serious problem, but my Win ME machine does not display the little blue monitors icon in the system tray when on a LAN connection. It displays it when on dial-up, but who uses that these days? Since I've been on Broadband these last 3 years I no idea when activity is taking place on the internet/ LAN/ Printers etc. Is there a little gizmo I can download to add the network icon to the sys tray as in my other WinNT based machines?

Go to control panel, network connections. and right click on Local Area Connection. Go down to properties, and on the genearl screen put a check mark in show in notification area when connected.

Thanks Yooper, but what you describe is what I see in WinNT-based OS's. My problem is with Windows Milennium Edition, where the control panel has a separate folder for Dial-Up Connections. This is the folder where you would normally also find your icons for network connections, but not so with ME. There is another icon in the Control Panel called "Network" which is where the broadband modem is configured, and there's no tick-box here to tell it to show icon when connected!

Well if you are now on broadband then you will not see it. There is a program called LanLed that IIRC will work with broadband.

OK Yargwell, I'm a-hunting for LanLed as we speak....
B.T.W., I found & downloaded NetTraffic on this site, which places an icon in systray and shows a little glimmer as net traffic goes to and fro, but it's not as obvious as the Win2k or XP icon.

Yargie! LanLed is good! Thanks for the tip, it's exactly what I wanted. It's good to talk! :D
