Reading http://www.majorgeeks.com/vb/showthread.php?t=34057 on Antique computer needs reminded me of a site www.donorschoose.com/ that helps out schools and various other projects in the USA.

    I ended up at http://www.donorschoose.com/donors.php?action=view_proposal&id=5052
The teacher says all 4 computers have damaged keyboards and asks for new computers and a printer. Maybe MG members in NYC could help him out with keyboards, help, or funds etc to get new computers.

The reason I has a record of www.donorschoose.com is that I spent 18 months in Sierra Leone, West Africa from 92-94 and have since wondered what I could do to help kids over there, as SL is now just recovering from a 10 year war from 1991-2001.

An Aussie company used to have a big interest in Sierra Rutile mining operation, but since the war closed down everything, they sold their interest to a USA firm thus closing a cheaper avenue of seafreight from OZ to SL and stymying any ideas I had of starting a simiar site for the benefit of SL kids.

Hope you USA members can help out these USA kids anyhow.

Lots of other projects that need help, lots are less than $300 required to solve the problem. Go to ther start page for these and other projects. Bazza

The NYC Teaching Fellows, one of whom authored the above link, is a very commendable program. It takes professionals who ply their skills as teachers in exchange for a subsidized Master's program.

BigBazza, thanks for bringing this request to peoples attention. I am available for help, if someone has keyboards.

Thanks Doug, 93 reads but only 1 reply from you plus my reply. Surely there are some other MG 'ers with big hearts, not necessarily big pockets, in NY or NYC that could at least check out the kids plight and report back. Maybe coz it's in the South Bronx and too far from where they live. Don't know NY or NYC except what you see on OZ TV. Bazza

No worries KODO. I don't expect anyone to drive 6 hours into NY. If it was me I'd probably drive 6 hours to get out of NY (only joking):D I used to live in the NT where is was 500 miles to the next town and you could only drive out for 3-4 months of the year. Guess I like the smaller towns and cities. Must be some NY MG'ers that could help, surely. Bazza

---bumped again. Anyone ever help out those kids with keyboards, and or tech help?
Hell, even I have a couple of spare keyboards, but not a proposition to freight them to NYC. Bazza
