    Hi There

I have an Inspiron 1525 the Hard drive has just died giving a 0142 error code and a message drive self test failed status byte = 77

Have just ordered new vista discs from Dell because they never sent me any at a cost of £25.

Can anyone recomend a new hard drive for the inspiron at a good price.. Thanks in Advance...

    What size do you need?

The best price to gigabyte is 1 TB drives which you can pickup for around £50-£60

    I like Western Digital drives.

Thanks for that mate will have a look at western Digital. Dont need a tb tho I may go for about half a tb..

Do you think it would be worth adding more ram while im at it. I've got about 1g and am running vista...

Agreed with the WD drive - good, solid equipment...

Of course, add more RAM if your system will accept it - best bang-for-the-buck upgrade you can make to a machine...there are some here that recommend 2GB for running XP, so with Vista/7, the more memory the better...

Think I'll go with 3 Gig of ram that should be enough for vista would think anyhow.. Thanks for the advice guys......... :)

Is the 1525 a laptop? If so it probably came with a 250Gb or 320Gb drive. Samsung Spinpoint drives are very good as well.

If you can, a TB is a good size. Yes, I too recommend WD drives. Put a half terra in my old desktop at home and it's like having a new machine frankly.

Its a 1525 dell laptop it only came with 120g its 2 years old. Have put the hd in today and its running well. Put vista on and the drivers and its just like having a new lappy. Its got 2 512mg ram chips in at the mo but am thinking of taking one out an adding a 2.5g chip for more speed. Alls going well upto now.... Thanks Guys :)
