Can anyone recommend a 3.5" IDE enclosure?

I bought a new hard disk and only after did I find out my mobo will not see it all so I thought rather than leave it in and use part of it I would get an enclosure and use it like an external drive. Are Sharkoon Swiftcases any good? If not is there any that are? I am looking for something reliable but not too expensive less than €40 if possible. Thanks

Not quite sure what you mean here.. are you adding a second EIDE or is this your main one (Master) as a replacement.. If it is a second one you will need to change the Jumper settings to Slave which is at the rear of the HD. Look on sticky on HD for directions. Also the HD if set to slave has to be formatted before Windows will recognise it.. Can you give us a few more details of your setup/computer this way you will get more help.

Thanks for the interest but the new hard disk is not properly detected by my motherboard. The mobo is not 48bit LBA compatible so there are a few workarounds to enable me to use it properly. I can either get an IDE controller with its own circuitry or an enclosure. The enclosure is basically a box with a USB port on in and you insert the internal hard drive into it thus making it an external hard disk. Thought it might be a good idea but never used one before. Thanks. my computer is a PIII 666, 256Mb, 20Gb (at the moment) and ATI 7000.

Thats the sort of thing I was looking for except now it seems I have it sorted. My problem was that the largest hard disk my motherboard could access was under 137Gb. This is because it did not support 48-bit LBA. (Its a Pentium III board). Win98 and Win2k also would not detect it all and I felt uneasy using it until I put Linux on it. And it works fine, Linux bypasses the BIOS and detects things for itself. Good job. Thanks.
