So I bought my hubby a new laptop and need to know the easiest way to transfer all his things from the old laptop to the new one...like his favorites and documents etc...Thanks for any help...

DoeZ, this is where I would STOP.
Let him decide what he wants on the new LT. If I was gifted a new Lappy, I'd want to set it up my self. Cheers....

Absolutely, but if he needs a pointer ask him to look into the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard (in XP that is)

Hi

What is the older PCs Windows version and what is the new PCs Windows version? as mentioned there are a few options just named different for the various Windows versions, Settings Transfer in XP and Windows Easy Transfer for Vista and Windows 7, both work well for just settings, account and docs, but will not transfer your installed applications, these have to be freshly installed again,

for whatever reason, i wasn't able to get the XP File and Settings Transfer Wizard to work.

i was able to save to removable media; i just couldn't get it to export back onto my clean reinstall of XP. luckily, i'd actually, ALSO, manually saved all my music, documents, installers, etc. so i didn't lose anything.

just fyi since the XP Wizard didn't work for me.
