    Hi,
Having a weird problem with Windows 7 Home Premium. I backup data, eg
favorites and burn them onto a CD but although the data is on the disk when I try to check it my computer does not recognize the CD. I open Computer and my Hard drives are there but the CD rom drive shows as empty. I have tried transferring the files to a thumb drive but the same thing happens. I can play them on my laptop so I know the files have been burnt, it is very annoying because I am thinking of doing a reinstall of the OS and I need to back up everything first. It is probably related to the fact that when I right click on the C or E drives I get the dreaded message "Microsoft Visual C ++ runtime Library, This app has requested the Runtime to terminate in a n unusual way." Explorer then stops working and restarts.
I have been struggling with this little problem for a week or more and am fed up with it!:confused

I hope you did not use the Microsoft's supplied CD/DVD writing tools can be untrustworthy.

I would either options below and reburn the CD.If its a RW then delete files off the CD and restart it.When you use these programs use the Data option.

    IMGBURN
    ImgBurn 2.5.8.0

    CDBURNERXP
    CDBurnerXP 4.5.2.4291

Another thing you could try is this item below.

    Winrar

    WinRAR 5.00

Problem might be is that you do not have the proper codec.

Thanks Skull, I use IMG for movies but never thought of the data option. The burn worked so that is one problem solved. Now I just need inspiration to fix my Runtime Error!:)

Runtime errors can occur if you are running two software programs that are not compatible, if your computer has memory problems, or if the computer has been infected with malicious software. If a runtime error keeps occurring, try these troubleshooting steps:

    Greetings, beezneez.

Regarding your runtime errors you might try reloading your VC++ package - I've had to do this a couple of times recently with machines with conflicts between VC++ and the .NET framework. You'll need to determine which version you have onboard and reinstall it. A good list of available flavors is located at KB2019667.

    Hi,
Thanks Skull for your input, however I already do all the things you mentioned and keep my PC up to date and clean.
as for Caliban's suggestion I have wanted to delete all my Msoft VC things but I am worried in case I can't get the right ones back to reinstall. I have three for 2005, five for 2008 and one for 2010. Can I just install the full packages for each year, such as 2005?

I also might mention that I managed to open in safe mode with msconfig but the same problems occurred and then I had a hassle getting back to normal mode. In the end had to open up msconfig again to get out of the no man's land.

Don't you just love computers? Always some little thing out to get you.:cry

Need to be careful about deleting versions of C++ - programs that depend on the various editions tend to break when the platform is changed. Crazy, I know.

Looks like you're facing a Catch-22 situation (you want to back up your data to reinstall the OS to fix a problem, yet you can't back up your data because of the problem). I'd still try reinstalling the C++ packages - shouldn't hurt anything, and if the C++ is indeed problematic then you may be able to salvage your data so that you can start from scratch.

Just an update on my Runtime error problem as someone else might find it helpful. The culprit was Acronis True Image which I had previously uninstalled (or so I thought). It is a beast to get rid of, files everywhere but Microsoft Fix it utility did the trick. Searching the internet I find that I am not the only one having this problem with Acronis, although I bought it I will never, never use it again. Now I use Macrium, it is excellent. You live and learn.:)
    Everything is now working normally.

    Thanks for you interest.

    1. Use Revo Uninstaller to remove any program. It uses the programs own uninstaller then goes through and finds all the registry entries.
    2. Make an Acronis boot CD then use Revo to uninstall it from the computer. I never run True Image while Windows is running; I feel it adds complications.
I boot with the Acronis TI CD and it loads the program into RAM. Then I either create an image or restore an image without Windows running. This method has saved my bacon a few times on computers that would not lad windows.
