Can Firefox No Longer Handle 1080p Video?

Every time I try playing one in the native player, it completely freezes. If I try playing one on YouTube, the video freezes but the audio continues and the video eventually catches up with it. Chrome has no problem with 1080p. I've only had this problem in the last few days since I updated to the latest version of Firefox.

Go into firefox settings and turn off 'Hardware Acceleration' ;)

Already tried that. Didn't help. Made no difference at all, in fact. And yes, I did close Firefox and restart it after I did it but there was no change. Firefox just updated again and still no change, either with hardware acceleration or without it.

What version of Firefox and what version of Windows?

I'm not sure what you mean by "native player".

    Windows 7, FF v 60.0.1 played this

I tested it on my old desktop running 32 bit Win 7 home premium with no special video card and my netbook running Win 7 home premium 64 bit. The desktop buffered a bit which is understandable because a 32 bit computer can't use all 4 GB of RAM.

By 'native player' do you mean HTML5 rather than Adobe Flash player? What results do you see when visiting this page: https://www.youtube.com/html5

    Firefox Quantum 60.0.1 64-bit and Windows 8.1

Try right-clicking on a 1080p video you have on your hard drive and selecting Open with Firefox; that's what I mean by the native player.

The rest of your post I can't understand. A RAM to me is a male sheep. I know nothing about computers.

    I guess?

Everything is ticked and "The HTML5 player is currently used when possible."

Why are you using a browser to open videos? VLC or Media Player would be better options.

I know. I'm just wondering what's changed. The browser used to be able to play 1080p videos and now suddenly it can't.

Are you trying to watch Netflix videos?

Nope. But YouTube videos are freezing at 1080p.

Firefox is not a native player for videos.
    Good idea...

I'm just looking for an explanation as to why Firefox is no longer able to play 1080p videos for me when it could up until last Friday, and why I can't play YouTube videos at 1080p without the video freezing but the audio continuing. That's also just started.

Have you updated your video drivers?

Easiest way would be to download Drive Booster and let it work.

OK, tried it. Need to reboot to complete the process. It recommends I install a patch it's offering from Microsoft to fix the Meltdown vulnerability. Should I? I heard Microsoft had released a lot of patches to fix that that all turned out to be buggy.
