Ok, so before I bring up my question/problem, let me restate my current pc specs:

    3.4 ghz P4 w/ Hyper Threading
    MSI 865PE Neo2-PS
    1 gb Geil ram (2 x 512)
    Windows XP home SP 2
    X800 Pro 256 mb
    120 GB Maxtor hd
    40 GB Maxtor hd

Ok, so anyway, I have been playing Counter-Strike and noticed a HUGE performance increase since I upgraded from a 2.0. I was getting 100 FPS steady. However, after showing my friend some screen shots of my dxdiag screen he informed me that I did not have Hyper Threading enabled or else it would show up as 2 cpu's. So I checked my Bios and sure enough it was disabled. Well to make a long story short, I enabled it, joined up a Counter-Strike server and now although I still get 100 FPS steady, it like lags for a second every 10 seconds or so. It's more annoying then anything else. It's almost as if my cpu is processing stuff TOO fast. Is that even possible? Let me know what you guys think. Keep in mind, it didn't happen till after I turned on Hyper Threading.

You've not overclocked your CPU, so its not going too fast.

But games like CS don't get a performance boost from HT since they don't have the ability programmed into them. If all you're going to do is play CS there isn't any point in enabling HT, really.

XP home will not take advantage of 2 cpus. you need XP pro.
enabling HT in XP home will do nothing.

He's right, Lugz, HT makes 2 virtual processors, the OS sees it as 2 seperate processors. XP Home doesn't support dual processors, so it makes no difference. Works on XP Pro though
