I have a Dell laptop that probably has a bad motherboard. I did a little troubleshooting on it in this thread[/QUOTE], but never got it to work. (Never got around to messing with the power connector - just tried to rig a new bios battery - no luck.)

So, the hubby went to an auction and bought a laptop (Latitude) with no operating system. I have an operating system (XP) on the non working laptop.

Ideally, moving the hard drive from the old machine to the new machine would be the easiest solution, but I know the drivers would probably stop me dead.

How can I create a working laptop here?

Hi

Yes you can create a working laptop with the HDD, but it would need to be of the same connector type as in IDE or SATA and yes it would really need a new re-install of Windows as the drivers are likely to all be different, however wouldnt hurt to try.

May need to then downlaod and install the driver for your model Dell onto the re-install of Windows and as HDDs are not machine specific, once Windows and Drivers are installed you should be ok.

I do hope that you have backups of any important files and docs, images etc that where on that drive in the failed laptop.
