I recently installed SP2 and my windows now is 700mb bigger, i want to know if this folder "$NtServicePackUninstall$" and a bit more very similar to that, can be deleted. I mean, thats the Sp2 or installation files?
Can i deleted them without problems?
    Ok thats my question

you can delete it...but Sp2 will be on your machine permanently.

Its the uninstaller information and backup files.

Hope this isn't considered hijacking the thread:
Does Adrynalyne's response mean that it is safe to delete all '$NtUninstallQ_______$, $NtUninstallKB_______$, $NtServicePackUninstall$'
files -assuming you've been running your OS (updated) for a while without any problems?
    Thanks for any clarification,
    522.

Hi, If you are happy with the computer now then you can uninstall it. It is there in case you have problems with SP2 and need to go back to SP1. It is really up to you . If you want the space and are happy then uninstall it.

I don't use XP so this advice may not be advisable, but why not burn it to a CD, first, before you delete it. That way I assume you could reload it if needs be. Bazza

Make sure that you can read the CD after burning it, just in case. Best of luck. Baz

Just my two bits worth: They are safe to delete, and most times, trying to 'roll back' to an earlier service pack doesn't seem to work anyway (ie: if you have problems with the new service pack, the problems will likely remain after 'uninstalling'). If everything's working well, delete 'em.

Ok the service pack folder is gone, one more thing its safe to delete any of that folders??? i mean all that starts with $Nt.....
I realize that its the service pack 1 and all the patches, but can be a system folder or something like that?

Anything with $Nt....$ should be safe to delete, provided none of your hotfixes are giving you problems.

I am not sure if deleting is a good idea!.
I tried to install the Office2K now and it complained that
    C:\windows\@ntservicepackuninstall$ is missing.
Now I am trying all over the WEB how to find it.

I have deleted the files with no apparent problems -but your comments about installing Office 2k give me pause -all is running well now but I wonder what would happen if I had to re-install MS Office.... I'll post back if the issue ever arrises. -Thanks for the input.
