Doin' a little hard drive cleaning and under Windows/Temp there's a sub category "pft14~tmp" Lots of small read/text files and other stuff I don't recognize...most newer in creation dates. Can I safely blow these away?

Yes. Files that are required should never be in the temp directory, so you should never have a problem emptying it.

If the file is currently in use, Windows will complain about file locks. It won't let you remove a Temp file that it still wants.

    Download andd install these 3

    Cleanup! http://www.stevengould.org/

    EmpTemp http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1575

    and CrapCleaner v1.10 http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html

All three are free. Run them every day after every session on the net.

They don't conflict with each other.

You have to run EmpTemp manually by clicking on the various icons and tabs. Work your way through the icons and tabs and you will soon get the hang of it. Bazza

i was flicking through the posts and thought 'thats a good idea' so i downloaded cleanup and CCleaner. i didn't download the other one as anything that wants me to understand what I'm doing is no good to me! anyway when ccleaner did its thing on one of the tabs it sez 'issues'. what do i do with my computers 'issues' ? (Ive tried counseling but its unresponsive to voice.) do i let ccleaner deal with them? aloha laurie

laurieB. I just let CC and Cleanup! do their thing daily. EmpTemp ain't that hard. Experiment. I don't think you can do any harm. Normal warnings apply. CC and Cleanup! get 99% of the crap anyhow, IMHO. Bazza

yes but 'issues' is a special tab on ccleaner. it gives you a list and asks you which ones to fix. i dont know which ones to check off. or if i should right click on select all or what I'm supposed to do. it seems to have an awe full lot of them though. i don't know how to post the box in here to show you. much aloha.

Scanning for 'Issues' does some checks on the registry and shortcuts. I always fix everything it finds. I believe it allows you to make backups in case something breaks.

I also just check off every issue it lists under the issues tab and fix them all. I haven't had a problem yet. Also Laurie, before running it, make a folder called regbackups or something like that and everytime you fix issues it gives you the option to backup the registry. Click yes and save it in the folder you made ealier. I name them 7.4backup.reg with the 7.4 being todays date. No need for a seperate disc.

i still cant believe my computer even has 'issues'. when i read it i just curled up laughing. so far Ive had ..software that 'corrupts' itself, printers that 'don't like' each other , 'communication' problems, and now 'issues'. no wonder people anthropomrphise their puters !! (is there another word for that? normally anthropomorphism is applied to animals) aloha all
