Hi, I have had dial up internet for some time and just got dsl. The dsl works ok but I seem to be having a problem sending and receiving email in outlook express 6 on my XP system when I am connected to the dsl server even though I have double checked and triple checked the new mail account that I set up and everything is setup correctly and the dial up modem is disconnected. Is there some sort of conflict going on here between the dial up and dsl causing my mail problem on the dsl network? Is there anything I can do? thanks for any help.

By this I assume the Internet explorer is working OK.
Outlook express has common settings with IE, so it is only the settings within OE that are incorrect.

I would hazard guess that it is almost certain you have the POP and SMTP settings incorrect.

Are you moving to a new email address or trying to keep existing?

Hi, and thanks for the reply. I am trying to move to a new email address. The high speed and dial up are two different ISP's. I still have my dial up service for now but I disabled the modem in the device manager hoping to resove the email issue but it didn't help. I still have the dial up email accounts in OE6 but also tried removing them thinking there was some smtp port problem. I created a new email account in OE6 for the high speed. It seems that I can send email using OE6 when connected to the high speed but can't receive it i.e. when checking for new messages there is a error. I have gone over the setting a dozen times and even had tech support walk me through setting up an email account but they were no help. I know it's something simple but can't seem to get a handle on it. thanks for any help.

This is one instance where it is not advisable to post details on the net. Never post your Email.

Send me a pm with details of what you were using and what you have now and I will see what I can sort out.

Hi, thanks for helping. I think I have it sorted out. Looks like the problem was with AVG free email scanner. I had it configured for dialup and changed it to LAN and it's working ok now. thanks
