Hi to all Hardware geeks, and lady geeks.

My WEI (Windows Experience Index) RAM rating is the lowest of the 5 scores (see attachment #1)
Crucial Advisor tells me I only have 2 RAM slots, and tells me what speed RAM I have installed. (attachment #2)
    Belarc Advisor tells me I have 4 RAM slots, 2x 4096 RAM, 2 x Empty.(see attachment #3)
I believe Belarc, but I haven't removed my RAM panel, yet, to check.
SIW and SIV tells me 4 x RAM slots (see attachment #4)

At the moment I have 8 gigs of RAM and Win 7 Home Premium (not SP1) 32 bit. I intend to go to Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit soon (with updates) to use the 8 gigs RAM.

My question is: How can I up my Windows Experience RAM score?
    RAM fitted is 2 x 4 gigs DDR3 10600 DDR3-133 AFAIK :), 2 empty slots.

    Specs.
    Toshiba Satellite Model P500/11S PSPGSA-11S003
    Intel Core i7-740QM 1.73GHz/4Gb (now 8gigs)/1Tb/Blu-Ray Combo/WebCam/BT/nVIDIA N11P-GE1 1GB/18.4" WHD+ /Win 7 PM, 750 gig HDD, 2 x HDD slots (1 empty) as far as I can determine at the present. ;)

It's not worth your money bb, and I doubt 8GB of RAM will help you out much anyways besides installing 64-bit Ult. Sad to say but unless you're transcoding huge video or processing photoshop pics/files, it's not going to help at all. Stick with what you have as it's more than a capable machine.;)

BTW, don't fret about what WEI says, it's only a rough guide at best.

Oops, I see you already have 8 gigs. I get a WEI of 7.5 with my 6 gigs of RAM, @ 1600. I can boost my low rating of 5.4 by putting in an SSD drive but it will not give me anything more as to performance as I hardly ever reboot.

Thanks Augie. I'm not really fretting about my WEI score, just annoyed. :(
It's just that I've never previously had RAM as the lowest score. :confused
Usually in a laptop it's the Graphics score that is the lowest, so I checked out the RAM in crucial.com and the Ram I have is the fastest they list for my model

Your "6 gigs of RAM, @ 1600", is that meant to be "10600" , or is it 1600 mhz?
    A typo?
    My RAM is 1333mhz AFAIK.

What are the tech details of your RAM?

    Thanks for answering.

Here's a tremendous bargain, (IMO) if you have the other bits needed to support this RAM.

    Hi Bigbazza

First off you are only running 32 bit OS so you will only be using 4GB of the 8GB installed. Second off will your motherboard support 1600MHz RAM if you currently have 1333MHz. If the answer is no then you wont see any performance increase compared to what you have. I would stick with what you have and upgrate to 64bit OS for now.

Having thought further the only benefit to buying the faster RAM would be if you OC the CPU clock to up your memory bus. I suspect you are talking about a laptop so OCing is out of the question and I dont think you will get much benefit from your proposed upgrade. Post a speccy log and we can get a better idea.

    Thanks Tueur for your reply.:)

I will be converting, and re-partitioning, my 2 x HDD's in my Toshiba Satellite P500 laptop over the next few days.
I'm also going to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit OS.
I'm going to really have my fingers crossed that I don't stuff it all up.

I don't know if my mobo will support 1600 mhz. It obviously supports 1333 mhz, at least. I will investigate that further.

So if you don't hear from me for a few days you will know disaster may have struck.
First of all I'm going to do FULL Backups to another External drive so I can resurrect my current situation, if necessary.

I'll come back (I hope) with full specs after the above.;)

I actually missed your specs in first psystem recovery. if you wipe oit that partition then you may never be able to recover your system.ost. so can prob get most of the info from there. I would be supprzed if you have two physical disks inzsidw your laptop as they normally ise one disk on separate partitions to save space. also just be careful as laptops often use hidden ghost partitions for system recovery. if you re partition youay lose that recovery omage and never be able to carry out system restore... not an issue if you are installing a new os from a windows disk thoigh.

The Satellite P500 laptop is not your usual run-of-the-mill laptop. :-D :-D
It has an 18.4" (really wide--not 15.6") screen to start with, 4 x RAM slots (not 2), 2 x HDD slots (not 1).
USB 2.0 unfortunately, not USB 3.0 :cry
    Weight 4.4 kgs (~9 lbs)
It is big and heavy. :(

    It definitely has 2 x HDD's.
It came standard with a 750 gig drive and I have fitted my previous 500 gig Seagate Momentus drive into the second slot.

Things you can do to try to raise your RaM score.

1> buy newer faster ram, for this option you must find out what ram is compatable with your hardware, some mainboards have upper limits as to what speed ram they will work with.

2> overclock your current ram, again you need to find out what your hardware can handle.

with 8gb of ram onboard allready do you really need to do either? I dont think so, unless your having trouble running somthing I wouldnt worry over much about it.

I have 8gb of 1333mhz RAM on a Win7 Premium 64 bit computer. My score is 7.4 for Memory Operations Per Second. My lowest scores are for the video card and frankly I couldn't care less. I can use my TV tuner card, stream internet videos on my internet speed, and Windows Aero works well enough. Still I have a WEI of 3.9.

On the WEI page there's a link to "Tips for improving your computer's performance.", if you click that, then scroll to the bottom of the page you should see a link to "Click to open the Performance troubleshooter.". I don't know if this will help you or not but I just tried it and it says I have too many programs at startup (expert mode, turn "fix automatically" off).\

Also, I use CleanMem. It's awesome. I started using it on a mobo that would only take 2gb of RAM, now I recommend it to everyone.
