    Hi,
I need to install win 7 or Vista in a Aspire 5520 laptop. They won't fit on a cd. My dvd drive won't boot from dvds, only cds. Despite bios boot order #1= cd, the F12 boot menu only offers-1)PCI LAN NVIDIA boot agent 2) IDE0: WDC WD2500BEVS. No dvd boot discs work. Can I boot from a USB drive and install off that? The current XP install sees USB in My Computer, but not the optic drive. So I am hoping that means the BIOS will see it.
    Any insight?

It is very likely that if USB devices are in the boot list, you should be able to boot from a flash/thumb drive to install. Here is a good guide on how to do it: http://kmwoley.com/blog/?p=345
