I want to make a folder like blocked. I don't want any programs or anything to add anything new to it. I tried to make the folder read-only but documents can still be put inside it. I don't know if you undestand what I mean, but I do not want any files to enter a certain folder and I want to know if that can be prevented.

Oddly enough, that program gave me my first BSoD in the last 5 or 6 years... ;\ fun.

It mentioned something about a "LF30XP.sys" and all this technical information involes some codes like 0x000000D5 and some others...

Anyway, that was a failed attempt, I do hope the damage from that program wasn't permanent.

Hmmm . . . curiouser and curiouser  I just downloaded the proggie, ran it, hid a file, made the file re-appear, ran it through it's bag of tricks and it performed flawlessly. At least that proves it's not a virus or a trojan. Used the same dowload site as you did. Dunno why it screwed up your machine.

;\ Don't feel bad, I probably would've tried that program anyway. I'm not sure why it caused the error, I copied most of the message, but I've uninstalled the program and everything seems normal.

Hmm, I'm trying to remove ads from a program since it keeps the ads on my computer, but if I delete it, the program downloads the ads and places them back into the folder. So, I'm trying to block it ;\

Try this one Balba .. it has a free version that locks only 4 folders but most of the time thats enough.

It locks the folder, but somehow the program creates another folder with the exact same name . . .

Hmm, I guess the program (flashget) does it somehow ... it keeps the ads on my computer, so I thought, I might as well try to see if I can stop it.

Hmm, guess I can't, was worth a shot I suppose.

Sory Balba .. I may have gotten the wrong end of what you want to do..... where does Flashget come into this and what OS are you using?

give us as much detail as possible and we can see what we can do ... most likely if you are using XP pro ( not used Home so dont know ) we can set permissions to read only.

Yes, I am using xp pro. Flashget was involved due to the fact that I seemed to be getting popups and I suspected that flashget was the culprit. I checked c\program files\flasget and there was a folders called "ads". If I delete all the advertisements stored in the folder, it would just re-download them.

    So, what do you suggest?

Well Flashget in its freeware version is AD driven unless you pay for the app.. so your most likely to keep getting that ad folder.

I would suggest using/trying another DL manager program... a few free ones are very good.. StarDownloader, Fresh Download & Leechget are all good and available here http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads13.html
