Hi, this is my first post on this great site.
I think i have been scammed by a software company. I would like to know if anyone has had similar experiences with this company. But I am not sure if it is o.k to name the company/and or the software here in this site? Many thanks.

I am pretty sure its okay to ask about the company and say its name.. People may voice there opinions and maybe "what you think is bad" really isn't .. we don't know till you mention something!

Side note.. welcome to the forum and hope you enjoy your stay! :wave

O.K here goes. The company name is DzSoft and the product is "quick image resizer".It seems to have come nicely packaged with a virus and the amount taken from my credit card was $20 in excess of what was originally quoted. I had to ask for the registration code - which i still had not received three days after my money was taken. After i got the registration code the product works really well - except i have the blasted virus to contend with. Virus picked up by Avira.
    Many thanks for any input.

    Name of the virus?

My Avira picks up tons of false positives every week. The last one was my new MMO -- Avira thinks it's a trojan! :-D

I think the point of the post was to warn others, not discuss the merits of what someone else feels the poster should have done.

If it works really well, then the poster got what he/she wanted from the product.

No amount of trial usage is going to prepare someone to pay 20 dollars over the asking price for a program.

As for the virus, get a second, third, or nth opinion. Avast is the king of false positives.

    Here is your nth opinion.

OP was using Avira and not Avast. :)

Oh ok. So anyway, Avira is the king of false positives..... :-D

Check virus total, it will check against MANY antivirus apps.

    ClamWin FTW!

EDIT: Unfortunately in the world of online software, no one small can be trusted at all, and no one big can be trusted very much.

One hint. It uses 1 process and runs at about 800kb-1mb of ram usage. Yes its a real time scanner ;)

Let me guess. It was designed for DOS 6.0 and you have modded it to work for Linux.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have attached an image of what i see many times a day now - flashed onto my screen.
I love the program "quick image resizer" because it seems to be the only program i can find that meets my specific needs. I have checked out the other photo editing programs suggested on this site - with no luck so far. Does anybody know a program that will do the following: ? I want to edit large batches of images for use as wallpapers (which i will use with my "wallpaper master pro").
I want to Keep all my jpgs around 100% quality, and have all my images set to a specific kilobyte range (eg.250 - 300). I know that this will mean that all my images will perhaps be of slightly different lengths and widths - but that is o.k. ( i am just aiming for approximate dimensions of 1280x1054).
I am doing all this so as to safe precious space on my computer.
Many, many thanks for any advice in my quest for finding such a program.
In the meantime i probably should remove the virus (below) - and the associated program.
I hope the image is visible - i am still a real newbie on this site....
Anyway, apparently the virus is "ADSPY/Adspy.Gen adware or spyware".

O.K This is what Avira has found.

Would be great if it is just as false positive!

upload it to virustotal.com and see what it says.

Notice is says recognition pattern...thats a heuristic detection, not a virus signature. So it could very well be a false positive.

Adding my own experiences of Avira: The heuristic pattern detection is where nearly all my false positives come from. I'd definitely get a second opinion, to make sure.

Thanks everyone, i uploaded the file to virustotal.com (what a great site!) and i got three "hits" - for suspect files, but nothing definate about a virus etc.
So yes, hopefully my positive Avira scan results for "quick image resizer" are all just false positives.
I guess i will just stick with "quick image resizer" until i can find an alternative.
Again, thanks for such a great site - and such rapid responses.

    IrfanView...

Many thanks Caliban for suggesting Irfan. I have tried it in the past but i cant see where/if it will allow me to set my file/images to all the same size (eg.250-300 kilobytes).
Maybe i am not looking in the right part of the program?

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Try this: put all of the files you wish to work with in a dedicated folder...open a file with IView, click 'File', 'Batch Conversion/Rename...', and then you can set up your outputs, options, advanced options, etc...

I use IrfanView constantly, and have for years - I'm seriously considering writing a tutorial and posting it here at MG, if the admins are willing...

Should be fine, but PM MA just to make sure.
