Basically the story thus far,,, I started losing conn every 30 min or so ,on a Motorola SB5101 cable modem about a month ago, well after seeking much knowledge and finally having a comcast tech come out ,the 2 men said my modem was fine ,connection was excellent ,it was probably my onboard NIC which is an NF3250 chipset on a K8NHAGRAND mobo ,so they gave me a new, PCI realtek 8139D Fast ethernet card and a new ethernet cable and a small 3 wire twist bundle, now my problem is ,ME...lol ,I know a little pc stuff but not this ,I installed new NIC and disabled old onboard and the icon for the new nic comes up but has a caution symbol on it and says low or no connectivity...What am I doing wrong???Do I need to uninstall those mobo NF drivers? there are like 4 in a file called winXP??
If anyone could be so kind as to please guide me through this ,I would be most grateful ,I am on a few other forums ,but for some reason ,I am always drawn here ...At this point ,I am back on old onboard NIC that keeps going off and on ,I need to install new card properly ,I can follow guidance CONFIDENTLY...thanks
    the noob here:confused

p.s. they did go ahead and give me a new RCA modem as well...

    Thank you for any help...

When you installed the new NIC did you just plug it in or did you install get a cd and install drivers?
Have you tried it in a different PCI slot?

what does device manager report about the new NIC?

You shouldn't need to uninstall any of the old, you can have several NICs on a Windows pc.

Hey thanks ,I disabled onboard NIC NF3250 ,I then Installed new card NIC PCI Realtek RTL 8139D and I then d/lded the drivers for new NIC with self installing option as diskette didnt have auto install...I tryed it both ways...When new card is enabled and old disabled ,the device manager says new card is working properly and of course old onboard is disabled and so is 1394 firewire (as always)...But icon for new LAC has caution street sign on it and says low or no connection ,seems to send few packets 30 or 40 (in a few min) ,and recieves none, firefox and all browsers ,IE ,Maxthon ,none work...Firewall is set like always and no popups from it ,running spybot and AVG...

    also in Ipconfig ,it says
    dns suffix is blank ,
auto config ip addy has an ip #
    Subnet mask has #
and default gateway is also blank...

I am sorry for being ignorant, just not learned this yet...and 40 , almost ,lol...

    Hope this helps...

    Thanks ,Mongoose333

Yes resetting the modem often cures problems. Pity the visiting 'Techs' didn't do that.

You can't get the staff these days.

well the card wasnt in while they were here ,I wasnt gonna ask em to install it ,but he did tell me that ,peoples problems of fixing pc issues are 99.9% of them over analyzing them, thats what I was doing and didnt even think of cycling it...rolleyesGo figure ...Thanks for the help and your time...Been online for awhile now and all seems great ,and speeds are up 2/3s and more:)...

    worked for me!

Thank you to those who thought to address Mongoose's issue!

This is my first post (duh), and I was able to solve my problem/s with a new internet connection. I just had put a new heart and brain into my grandaughter's PC, and couldnt connect, (limited or no connectitivity. The ISP mentioned their software, I never knew it existed. Seems they want you to pay more if you are connected w/more than one computer, news to me.

Anyway, I installed their software no noted changes.....until I cycled down the PC and modem (Cat.5 cable)! TA-DA! instant connection!!!!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!....S&C

I have other Q's and will seek out somemore info in the FAQ and other boards...S&C:)
